Well, my opinion of bird rock is this: I dont surf it. Its actually a really good laydown boogie spot. Joel Tudor and a few others go there on long boards and stuff, but that is generally a break that everyone avoids, with good reason. Its not even the locals, its just a dangerous wave. Its not ideal for shortboarding while 10 spots on each side of it are, so your right about bird rock...

But as far as surf gangs and stuff, those are little LS high school kids running around waxing peoples windsheilds...

The only real thing that happened around here was last year when that pro surfer from La Jolla got jumped. But that was after an altercation in a bar, and the guy didnt mean to kill him. He hit him too hard and killed him with a punch. But my point is, the fact that he got killed had nothing to do with him being a surfer...

Dont get me wrong, like I said, I surf with di**s every day out here. But its mostly a lot of angry barking. I surf with this guy that literally yells at everyone that doesnt live in ob. EVERY DAY. If he drops in on you, he yells at them. If he is paddling out in the impact zone while you are on the wave, he *****es at you for coming at him... Hes a total kook, and brings bad vibes, but thats mostly what it is... Just angry old dudes yelling at outta towners and little kids telling the boogie boarders to stay in there zone...

Im just saying. Ive seen full on collisions, broken boards, terrible crashes... But none of them resulted in a beat down on the beach. Its always just 30 minutes of splashing and sh** talking betweens sets.

I know everywhere can have di*ks, you are right about that. My experience in OC though is just that its a much more volotile environment in the summer. Its a mix of all kinds of people in the water... People out for their first time... Its just dangerous sometimes... And sometimes the people who dont know how to surf can be the most dangerous ones. They will be out there fighting, because they have no respect for the ocean or the city they are visiting... Its like all the fu**in Zonis (tourists from arizona) that come out here and throw cigarette buts on our sidewalks, and attempt to paddle out on foam boards and get in the way... We have it here too... But most of the crazies that visit san diego stay on the beach drunk. Not too many people venture out in the water here that dont know how to surf at all... They gotta go up to tourmoline or somewhere they can paddle out in.

Zach, you're the "local" but you are confusing Bird Rock with Big Rock. I mentioned Big Rock, one of the nicest waves :) Yes, it breaks on a ledge and sucks out nicely. Lot's of shortboarders, fishies, kneeboarders and bodyboarders ride it. Kinda nice when Windansea is packed.

That was done by the "Bird Rock gang" and it was more than a single punch. The guy was pummeled by a group of guys. They were surfers. Whether it happened at or after a bar doesn't matter - that is apples 'n apples with your OC Boardwalk talk. BTW, Bird Rock North and Bird Rock South are very nice reefs, especially when hitting 8'+.

    Rod:

I never said I was a la jolla local. I began my statement by saying i dont surf there. I will go to blacks on occasion like everyone else, but other than that, I dine in la jolla more than i surf.

I live on sunset cliffs. I am an obecian. I don't spend much time north of the san diego river. I got everything I need within a 3 mile stretch.

Are you serious dork? For starters I am sure I have been surfing longer than you have... next... OC blows the doors off of VaBeach.... HAHAHA.. you are such a loser..... THEY BOTH SUCK YOU FREAKIN' IDIOT! I am assuming you are one of the kooks thats gets pushed out of the water. I have NEVER had a problem surfing in Va Beach with anybody. The whole reason I started this thread was to question why all you OC/New Jersey kooks get all amped up about your spots when they quite simply usually suck, like your skills. You guys need to roll your droopy, wizard sleeve vag lips up into your panties and go catch some waves and leave it at that.

    Keep dreaming fool...

if you were any good you would not have even mentioned any of this.

Sounds like you got scared in OC, so maybe it would be best for you to just stay away?

For you to even attempt to call out Jersey or OC ,.....in relationship to VA Beach, does not even make sense, and given the fact that you claim "I am sure I have been surfing longer than you have", you should already know this. And you should also know your home break well enough to know that OC is way more consistent then VA beach by a long shot. If you were or are any good and you are from the VA beach area, don't you just end up in OBX anyway? I mean really, who stays in VA beach when OBX is so close?

You original post was random from start to finish,... just a rant about how you got ***** slapped in OC, and so now you got beef with everyone north of VA Beach........now,.. who is the KOOK?

If you are so much more experienced, it sure does not show it from anything you have written so far.

I call BS on you, your claims and your post.

THAT is exactly your problem!!! You will DINE in La Jolla but not SURF in La Jolla. You guys that live south of the San Diego River... helpless!

I have ridden some of the reefs of the Cliffs a few times but more often than not will find myself on the La Jolla reefs or in North County.

Yes. VaBeach isn't primo but has its days... like OC. These stretches of beach are what they are just like Oahu's north shore is what it is. But, there is this sense of nationalistic pride that rears its head... when it is less than head high...

    Rodnth:

Do you live out here or something? You sound like you know what your talking about, but your last comment lost me. You now sound like you've visited here once or something...

I am like every obecian if you know any. Why would I drive 20 minutes north, when 9 out of 10 days, the wave at the end of my street in OB is as good as if not better than any spot in la jolla. I have a huge jetty, 2 little jetties and pier, endless reefs and point breaks right in front mf my house, but you want to know why I dont go up to la jolla and surf all the time???? You are super confused dude....

There is a La Jolla click. THere is an OB click. I am in the ladder... If I lived in a place where there was never any surf, I would drive all over town looking for waves too, but lucky for me, OB is as consistent as any neighborhood in all of SD... It sucks up South, West and NW swells like its nothing... And if you know so much about the cliffs, you know that a mile offshore, there is a 1000 foot drop off the reefs, so all winter long, while you are up in La Jolla with every asian math student from UCSD and all the other tourists, remember that there are guys out getting waves much better than la jolla cove....

If you lived in OB, you would never leave either... You just dont get it...

If i have a perfect wave 2 blocks from my house... Im walking to the beach and surfing it....

8 years ago, I would drive all over town and surf here and there and blah blah... You get over that sometimes bro... Why waste your time...

    Get with it;

Xgen70 - I have never even been to OC or Jersey so I clearly didn't get bullied out of the water there. And of course I end up in hatteras, but why would I drive 2+ hours on a weekday when i can surf 3minutes from home? I do have a real world job you douchebag. Keep living your dream up there with your gnarley breaks and your shreddin ways. Even the seagulls fly upside down over Jersey and Delmarva.... cause there is nothing even worth ****ting on. A bunch of trailer park kids wishing their white trash parents had raised them somewhere else.

Ay bendito, Zach, so much turmoil in your writing for so much *****en surf! Is the pressure of moving East getting to you?

One good reason for going north of the river, and outside your clique, is that the SW swells of summer favor the La Jolla reefs better than the reefs in Pt. Loma. Sure, there is beach break in OB, and a jetty/groin or two, and you can sometimes catch them with only 50 others, but the reefs beckon. For me, it is the reef at Big Rock over the beach break at OB anyday (not to be confused with the average beach break day in the DelMarVa).

I've probably been to San Diego about 30-40 times in the past 30 yrs. But, you will never mistake me for a local at OB ;) However, I will be sure to surf with a local or two when in town! Poor "NewGuy" has lived in OB for what, 20 yrs now?

Yeah, I feel you man. Im not trying to argue with you about all that. If youve been here 30 times, you know the deal then. Im just saying, if you spend most of you time in LJ, they will tell you LJ is better all year. You go to Oside, guys say the same thing about their spot... OB is the same. Sh**, guys in IB claim it too....

So we all feel the same way. Trust me, I know how the coastline angles as you progress up north. I know that LJ and north pick up steeper SW swells. But, after many many summers of chasing swells and driving up to Lowers and OC and North SD, I have found that most of the time, I leave my waves in OB, and when I get to my final destination, I am pissed that I left OB... Sure, ive scored LJ and others really good... But when its said and done, I am just super comfortable in OB. I know the guys. I know the waves. The conditions are always ok. I dont need much to have fun. You give me a waist high beach break and I will have fun for hours... So while some days, I have the patience and dedication to go down to Mex, or up north etc... Most of the time, I just like where I live and surf daily. I dont need anything more than that...

Im not saying that the cliffs are better. Everyone knows the cliffs dont even break all summer. There are a couple "summer reefs" that pick up the south swells, but the summer here is the off season. Its the season for beach breaks and a few summer reefs....

From October - April is when my area is the best in town. When the NW come through town closing out every beach break (except blacks), then the cliffs are on. There are like 15 breaks to La Jollas 2 that can handle massive swell...

So, if you have been in SD in the winter, I am sure you ventured down south of the river and took part in some fun reef breaks... Even in ritzy la jolla, you gotta come check the cliffs sometimes....

But anyway, we are in general agreement I believe. Just got side tracked on the details.

It is fair to say that the larger surf I've ridden in San Diego has been along the La Jolla reefs, between Bird Rock and The Cove. As you probably know, Bird Rock handles some good size, and 12' is about my limit these days anyway. The Cliffs also do not do so badly.

No thanks, Coronado and south.. the thought makes me ill, sick to my stomach. Some nice tubing beach breaks, however.

So if you have never been to either one, exactly what the hell are you talking about? Was your post just a general observation of the threads on the board or what? Like I said, about as random as random gets.

You are making less sense with every new post you write. Bet you thought you were smart by listing DelMarVa instead of OC, ....so predictable.

So you got nothing good to say about All Of Jersey and All DelMarVa ???????

And we are all white trash on top of it all? And I guess we have no real world jobs to boot........

You got some serious issues. Your writing lacks any real substance and shows how limited you are in so many ways.

i have been to VA Beach and scored it at 4 to 5, clean breaking outside... in ,...off first street jetty, my very time there. Glad I had a good time, AS I should have.

If the seagulls won't crap on us, they sure as hell do not mind crapping on you and your break,... from what I have seen.

When you start talking about peoples kids,(trailer Park kids) or peoples parents,(white trash) I think you need to step away from the keyboard.

Lame, weak and shallow,.....that is all you are showing us when you write.

I hope you get what ever it is out of your system soon,... those types of problems can be bad for your health.

As I mentuioned before loser... the original post was an OBSERVATION of the threads on this site... and now you have gone and gotten yourself all worked up. And obviously... you are one of those white trash trailer parkers I was referring too.... As for my health... I'm fine thanks... and not particularly worried about some rump humper on an internet thread.
