No, I didn't miss the point. If OP wants to be in surfing shape, I expressed my own opinion-- AWAY from his assumption that martial arts (jui jitsu, muay tai, etc) would be ideal by stating those sports are quite lame. I don't have to enjoy those activities nor do I have to suggest them if I don't think they're appropriate for getting in surfing shape. Marathon runners don't spend their training playing football. The majority of their training is running. Just like any other sport. If my opinions get your panties in a bunch, well, that's not my problem, and maybe you shouldn't be on a forum where people express opinions other than your own. I'm a hypocrite because I formed and expressed an opinion of my own? I feel you should look up the definition of hypocrite. And I'm hiding? How so? Hell, If anyone's hiding it's those who conform to everyone elses opinions because they're afraid of stating their own (that goes along with your wrongly used term: hypocrite). In fact, if anything, I'm NOT hiding, I mean sh!t, my location is right up there beside my username. My logic would be that of an explanation using facts and theories. Because I shared with this forum my opinion, I'm afraid my opinion would suck... but then that's just not true. Everyone's entitled to their own. ...And if you're going to be dumbER and gayER, technically you would have to be a bit of each before reading my opinions. In which case, you'd be more inclined to enjoy the childish emoticon of a ***** you posted...bro.
Where did I say that boxing is a bad idea to get in shape overall? I stated if surfing shape is what you want, martial arts really isn't your best bet, BUT if it's fighting you'd like to do, then boxing wouldn't hurt...then again if you're that passionate about fighting, why is he on a surf forum anyway and not a fighting forum? If it's surfing shape you want to acquire, there are huge advantages of other workouts over fighting gyms...specifically surfing. I'm implying that you're NOT at his skill level... what else could it imply? So the things he does to get in surfing shape are going to be drastically different than some below-average to average guy with a surfboard. At those levels, the only thing going to improve their surfing is...surfing, not grappling some guy on MRSA-ridden mat. When you're surfing at a professional level and have your muscle memory, and experience of HOW to use your body in various conditions, sure, running, boxing, or other sports are great for cardio...until then...surf. If it's OP's goal to join a fighting gym however, he should go to a fighting forum.
You can't surf when there's no waves so finding another activity to improve fitness is very benficial. If your only exercise is surfing you will be in poor shape when the time comes and you can surf. If marathon runners couldn't run to train they might very well play some football to stay in running shape. You're comparing apples to dildos. "people that don't get it don't get that they don't get it"- Colin Cowherd
Marathon runners playing football, surfers fighting to stay in shape between swells ? Way off base.. hard to run with a wrecked leg, hard to surf with a dislocated shoulder or a busted head... ... looking to cross-train there are better ways. Forum fightin' aint one.
