Going soon .Ive never heard too much about surfing in Bermuda,just curious if anyone has surfed there or if there are of any breaks there?
I went there in the summer of '06 and there was no surf while I was there, but from asking around the island, surf "can" happen, but there needs to be a pretty big swell, mainly a hurricane, to have spots break. I really have no idea about the quality of the breaks. The reason they do not get surf is because of a reef that is around the island that sucks up all the swell. It's a shame because it is one beautiful place and it'd be an amazing surf destination. Just do some windsurfing, I had some fun doing that!
I've never been there, but looking at Satellite view, the island is heavily protected by outer reefs... It appears that the best chance for surf would be on the southeastern exposed coast, where the outer reef is much closer to the land.
i spent a week there in '05. the whole island is only 20 square miles & is shaped like a fish hook.it's also made up of many smaller islands & you often have to take the high-speed ferry to different parts of the island.you really don't need a car there if you wanna just take the ferries or a taxi. i thought it would have at least some potential for waves,but like others said,it would have to be a storm swell that hit just right & in just the right area. plus,there are tons of shipwrecks there that are at or near the surface,so if a swell would pop up,you'd need proper recon of what's underneath the spot your hittin.hittin a rusty shipwreck would suck. BUT,even though there weren't waves there,i really loved it there.if your into history,you'd love seeing all the old forts & stuff. nice shopping & a decent nightclub in Hamilton,the capital too.most shops also take u.s. dollars or bermuda $.i had fun hittin the atm so i could get some funky tropical-lookin $ to take home for a souvenier.now,there were high winds the whole time with a storm on the day i left & i still saw no surf,so pretty much doesn't happen there.generally,i liked it more than the carribean though.bermuda's tight dude.can't beat the fishing there either
Seems as though Bermuda might just be more of a nice resort place to take your wives/girls. I noticed that with Honolulu. Don't get me wrong Honolulu had some decent surf when I was there a couple weeks ago. Not very big, but consistent, and nice, and glassy. Two times I been there I notice you gotta go to the North Shore of Oahu, and Western part of Oahu to get better surf. Haven't been to Bermuda though.
