Life circumstances are leading me to Barnsley, in the middle of the UK, famous for it's thick accent and Industrial roots? Seriously that's about all I know other then I got family who needs some help over there so I might be there a couple of months. Whatever the case may be I'll definitely be exploring and getting some surfing in whenever I get some free moments. I'll have a car and since I'm goofy foot it should be all good driving on the other side of the fishbowl. Maybe even cross the channel. Curious about big wave breaks, nice lefts? Anyway, looks like there water temps are comparable to this side of the Atlantic. Will my 3/2 cut it there come April, Board shorts in the summer? I could tell there's a pretty decent contingent out there but other then a layover I've never been to the island so any info is new, just want to make sure I bring the right tools. Anyways, I'm off to enjoy me fish and chips, so enjoy your side of the Atlantic old chaps and may many swells find your way like sailors do to the ports where the loose women lay...

I think you'll be doing some traveling for surf there, where the SW portion of the UK is going to be the most consistent. However, I think both sides actually break, but I dont know the quality of surf they get on the east coast. good luck. Your going to want your 4/3.
You'll need more than 4/3 wetsuit. More like 5mm, hood, gloves, boots--the works. Drysuits are common too. Cheers
Just remember, great britain is a pretty big island. That being said, the southwest will for sure be the most consistant, but the east side can get some good waves too. I think general rule for the east coast is the closer you get to scotland the better. But the east coast has tons of left points. I know there is one wave on the east coast called jellylegs, looks to be about a 300 yard reeling left point. just look at google earth and check out the coastline there, cause apparently the east coast breaks quite often, and the swell is always N or NE... PS. i wouldn't listen to most of the other people on here.... I mean the dude just above me told you to surf in a drysuit??!!
No and No. (an exception might be southwest Cornwall - east coast forget it...freezing!) April water temps in the low upper 40s to low 50 with lots of cloudy cool weather Summer water temps in the low mid 60s with lots of cloudy cool weather. Been there in mid-June (Wales has great waves) but still needed the 3/2

thanks for the info yall...so I will be bringing all my wetsuits. Barnsley is closer to the East Coast so I will keep an eye out for swells coming through that way, but from what I've read here and researched on the web the Southwest is the epicenter of surf over there and from the pics I'm seeing it looks like it gets pretty good. Regardless I will make the best of it wherever I am and should be some good times. Cheers to all!
