Living in VB I thought bodyboarding knee high mushyness was lame. Moving overseas to a place where there are actually waves... it is no longer lame. 1). They take of deeeeeeeep on pitching overhead waves in knee deep water and can do some cool tricks to boot. 2). They out number surfers so you have to be nice regardless 3). Some of the surfers also bodyboard and are pretty good (some waves here just aren't meant to be surfed) 4). Some of the bodyboarders can surf and are pretty good. RESPECT!

I spent summers growing up at the Wedge in California so I've boogieboarded and bodysurfed all my life. I'm just now learning to surf after my surfer friends nagged me to get off of the sponge board!! I usually ride the shoulders on my boogieboard to stay out of the way of the surfers and can pretty much hold my own. Now that I'm learning to surf I still try to stay out of the way of the better surfers. So much so that the surfers start calling my waves for me -ha ha :)

let me enlighten you mr. powers. knees are not muscles. when you kick your legs to boogy, you bend your knees over and over again. uh duh

That poll is total BS. Wrestling is number one, maybe number two.
Aside from that, I don't think surfing belongs on that list anyway. Maybe the ASP peeps and blah blah blah can be a "sport" if they want, but in my mind we're completely separate from all that crap. By "we" I mean both spongers and stand-up folk. This argument is soooooo funny by the way. I love reading these posts.

I think it all comes down the the amount of speed that you can generate. Boogie boarders have a lot more drag slowing them down. Surfers have a thin leash at most and the ability to generate speed from the wave.

I've seen a pic (pretty sure it's on this website) of a boogie boarder snaking a guy on a shortboard in one frame then the next shot shows the shortboarder making his bottom turn and passing the sponger... That settled it for me.

what settled it for me is that boogieboarders are gay.

That list is 100% ridiculous. All of the big-name sports are at the top because people are most familiar with them. "Hmmmm, I guess football requires a lot of strength because big guys play football. Figure skating doesn't require that much strength because little people do it..."

You don't have to choose a side to have an opinion. I think he pretty clearly expressed his.

D*ck dragging is for kids who are not coordinated enough to surf. Drop knee is somewhat respectable.

That said, the deepest I have ever been and come out was on a body board with no fins in front of the "nights in rodanthe" house. The wave was breaking in about a foot of water and GRINDING.

Having a body board that day allowed me to get barrels rather than take poundings. If having another piece of equipment allows you to better take advantage of the conditions, let the haters hate. Best believe it though, if it's surf-able, I'm surfing. Body board is plan B.

Years ago, I gashed the bottom of my foot on the boardwalk during a fun swell. Taped it up and gave it a go, but couldn't really stand. Rode that swell as a kneeboarder. It was fun, but definitely didn't compare. If someone is unable to surf, but wants to enjoy the waves, more power to them. But for those that claim they can surf, but choose to boogie board, I don't understand it. Why lay down when you can stand up?

So how does this statement pertain to the video I posted on page 2? Surely not kids, and can guarantee they "stand-up" surf better than you.

I bet dropknee is harder than standing up. Go ahead and argue it; I've done all three :p
