On top of all that, I don't think Ive ever seen anyone ever catch anything. What Ive always said was let's see who catches something first - wave or fish. I always win.

Yeah I usually don't either, but like 3 weeks ago I saw some guy catch an almost 3ft striper within the first 10 minutes he was there.

funny enough,i've had more trouble with this on my jetski in oc,md than i've had bodyboarding.for some brilliant reason, the fisherman on the rt50 bridge feel the need to drop all 40 of their lines in the boat channel that goes under the bridge. i had been almost snagged so many times,i started strapping a dive knife to my handlebars incase the hook snagged me .i had it so i could unsheath it in a second if there was imminant hookage.
as for another's question,my friend did actually get hooked while scuba diving off the coast of Okinawa,Japan. he was 50ft under & was suddenly getting dragged to the surface.when he came up,he saw some random 80 year old japanese dude shaking his fist at him. he promptly held up dude's line & cut it with his dive knife, making a big show of it,to piss him off. he got hooked in the bootie & thank god he had fiber-bottom booties on or his foot would have been shredded.fiber bottom booties have a 1/2 inch thick fiber pad glued to the bottom of a regular bootie for protection from sea urchins when walking out to dive from the shallows. all these stories make me want to wear a small dive knife when i board just incase....

look it up - DCI - depends on how long he'd been diving, how many dives that day and last few days, how long between dives, how good of shape he's in etc.

Actually, it's borderline. Like said it depends on YOUR condition. The outer reef in the Dos drops to 40-50ft. The locals dive down to the bottom to grab Cong shells and Octopus...and shoot right back up to the surface.....no scuba gear at all.

no,true story & if you knew anything about diving, you'd know you'd be mostly ok only being about 50ft down.also, think about it,how hard could an 80 year old dude real you in anyway? since my friend was being dragged to the surface by his feet,he could do nothing till he got up & the line slackened. he went up at a rate slow enough to avoid getting the bends or anything serious, but he did have a headache for a day or so....

he was on his 1st dive of the day & he had just gotten his open water certification the week before. BTW,this happened when he was stationed there in the Marines,so he was in peak physical form......

Man I have this problem all the time!!! Especially in the summer... Fisherman always seem to want to cast out where the best sandbar is. If it really starts to be a problem (getting in the way of good waves) I'll walk in and ask them to please move over some. The laws are the same in VB as Ocean City, you cannot cast out near people. So if they give me any lip, I tell them what they are doing is against the law. If they still refuse I tell them I'll cut their line with my fin.

P.S. Cutting a line with a fin is really hard. You just gotta manhandle their line and just get all gnarly with it against your fin. Its not gonna be some incognito line cut. Its very blatant, very obvious, and will probably take a min or 2 of getting vicious with that sucker...

And im sorry to call you out dave... But it seems you know very little of scuba diving. 50 feet is not that deep. Sure you can't just rocket down to 50 feet. But if you work your way down, getting acclimated, 50 feet is child's play... Novice divers go down 50 feet, in fact thats a pretty standard first dive. "Recreational Diving" is considered anything from 0 to 130 feet. And deep sea divers can go way deeper, up to 900 feet.

Ohh.. I see its the ascent you are talking about. Generally you don't have to worry about compression till you get below 75 feet.

And to the guy talking about people "free diving" of outer reefs. Thats a completely different ball game. Free divers can go as deep as they want and come up as fast as they want.

have this problem every summer and have seen a friend get casted on and hooked by some asshole renter....... probably the best moment i had was when one of them wouldnt stop casting out on us and i took a wave and got tangled in his line then paddled around for half an hour before he gave up and cut the line.

one time i was body surfing at hatteras (about 2 miles north of the lighthouse) when i felt a sting in my right foot. note there were no fishermen around for about 500 yds but as it turns out someone (probably from the day before) cut their line and their hook when straight through my toe. but the fishermen that were down the beach let me borrow their pliers.

I was bodyboarding my local southern NC break a year and a half ago, and I felt something sharp inside of my right fin. I thought it was just a piece of seashell and I kept on surfing. Eventually it really started to hurt and I paddled back to shore. When I took the fin off, I had about 1 1/2" of wire sticking out of my big toe. The rest of it, the hook end, was buried deep in the flesh of the toe. I went to an urgent care clinic on the way home and had it removed.

I'm sure that the ocean floor must be covered with discarded fishing line, fishhooks, lead sinkers, and cigarette butts from all of these clowns engaging in their "sport".

im not afraid to cut a fishermans line if i have to. but do i want to cut their lines. no as that means trash in the ocean. instead if theyre in my way then i would either pull on the line to get their attention to yell for them to go somewhere where they can fish and not where surfers are. but if im riding a wave and i run into it then i give them the death stare while leaving the beach.

Got some fun little waves today. Started down the beach, and drifted north, catching waves as I went along. Fishermen stayed at the north end of the beach... surfers to the south. As I drifted north my plan was to drift down to the end of the beach, and around the jetty, and catch a few on the other side. But by the time I drifted up to the north end, a few fishermen had posted up to catch the incoming. I respectfully got out and walked around.

Nobody caught a fish the entire time I was there.

Its already legal my man... Any and everyone that wants a medical card can get one. Lets pray they don't legalize it... I'm just fine and happy with the way it is. Keep the dank dispensary nugs for those devoted enough to go through with getting their card... Everyone else can kiss my ass...
