Bad idea, right? Anyone have any ridiculous stories about a time they attempted to surf with a non-surfing significant other? Not talking about offering to teach the touristas to surf so you can grab their pussies later, this is specific to teaching your lady or guy significant other to surf. In the alternative, does anyone actually surf with their significant other? Took my wife (girlfriend at the time) out at a spot in the Caribbean whilst on vacation. She's paddled out a few times prior but not really competent. Easy reef break, shallow in some spots but no worries because sets were only waist high. I punch through the waves and get out the back, 5 minutes later she makes it out and gives me **** for not waiting for her. Next, I catch **** for not sitting close enough to her in the lineup...The last straw was we're sitting their talking and a wave comes through, I turn and go...mid-conversation. She paddled in after that and I surfed for the next 2 hours in peace and quiet. She's hot though
This sounds about right. Not exactly the "bonding moment" she thought it would be when she realizes how difficult it is.
i dont dig it i dont even think i would like a chick that would surf tbh or wife...nice to be alone in the ocean once in a fkn while am i right?
Kinda more fun to have separate hobbies. My and husband have very different hobbies and sets of friends. We go do our own stuff and have plenty to talk about at the end of the day. I think if you take a non surfer girlfriend, she will be confused about why you just take off and leave her in the soup on a paddle out. Or why you take off mid sentence. You gotta prepare her for surf culture so she won't take it personally. Also, I likely wouldn't take a new person out in a waist high day unless I was pushing them into whitewater. With a new person, you're not gonna be able to do much of your own surfing. Valhalla often comes up with his wife who is a beginner. I don't know if he filled her in on surf culture, but she doesn't seem to mind that he is doing his own thing while she learns to surf. And then this cool thing happened once where this very skilled and beautiful woman took his wife under her wing and coached her into waves for over an hour. That was so cool.
If my wife starts surfing, I will quit. There is "surfing Barry" , and there is "relationship Barry", and never should the two meet!!
My wife used to surf, she was pretty good. Since we had kids she stopped, too spooked something bad will happen. A couple years ago we went to Mexico with my sister and husband, and no kids. It was small one of the days right out front of the hotel, so she paddled out right to a incoming set. She turned caught the first, rode it and then the white water to the beach, put the board on the beach, smiled, waved, did the mic drop sign and walked back to her chair. So hot
My wife looks great on a surf board but it's not her thing like it is mine. I am able to get her out a couple times a year, but so far she hasn't been bitten by the bug. Which is fine. I get my time in the ocean without hassle so it's all good. When she joins me though it's usually small out but enjoyable.
Same here for the most part. My gf has a wavestorm and it initially was a struggle getting her out because of an experience - read below. Started on white water and then some small 1 foot peelers. The last time we went she was paddling out and trimming on knee high waves all by herself. I don't think she will ever be into it like I will but it's fun to bond in the small stuff! Funny story though. During one of the first times I took her out my buddy was teaching his kook of a wife right next to us on an epoxy long board. They both caught waves but by the end of the ride the other chick was behind and heading straight towards my lady. She jumped off her board and it shot my gf right in the face! Black eyes, bloody nose, and the works. I thought she would never step on a board again but not less than a week later she was itching to have me take her out.
My woman will go sometimes and hang on the beach. Actually came out one time with my waterproof cam and took some shots as she was taking waves to the head. Trooper!! Ps, it was a smaller day, it she still got props
My lady don't surf. She likes to come down and take pictures though. It's funny because she knows allot about surfing (through me). If someone drops in on me she will stand up from her beach chair and yell "beat it kook!". She kinda understands what goes on out there. How to tell good waves from bad waves. Hell, she'll even check the forecast and say things like "tomorrow is looking like fun waves". I wouldn't mind taking her out on a LB on a small day of she wanted. But i wouldn't be super stoked about it. Not because she'll get mad, but because i think she'd get hurt. She's not really tough. At all. One little bump on the board or sand and she'll get all upset and get out. One time i had her on a longboard (skateboard). She was doing good and having fun. Hit a rock or crack or whatever going slow, fell, and ran inside crying.
my wife does not surf. Tried to teach her years ago and she never really seemed that interested. Friend at work taught his then girlfriend now wife. She has made it clear that she is now "the primary surfer" Needless to say, he doesn't surf anymore but once or twice a year. I've offered to let him hide a board at my house or borrow one of mine and ditch work with me and just not tell his wife (like I do sometimes if I know she'd object), but he doesn't have the stones to. Sucks to be him.
Nice! Although my wife doesn't surf she can sit on the beach all day. Same with fishing. Will sit in the boat all day and not touch a rod. (Insert ***** jokes). It's a perfect match.
The only time my wife of 23 years doesn't go to the beach with me is when the Seahawks are playing lol. Although she has no interest in surfing personally, she learned most of the nuances very quickly. She can spot currents and rips, can identify the difference between good and marginal surf, and recognizes a kook before they even put on a wetsuit. She was from a small lake resort town with a beach culture very similar to what we all grew up around, so she inherently "gets it". She also understands that sometimes it's a good thing to let the old man have his day with the boys, and has never complained when I temporarily suspend our ritual beach walks or morning grind at our favorite local greasy spoon when a window of surfing opportunity opens up expectedly. She don't surf, but I consider myself a lucky man.
