I get mad whiplash all the time when I surf, expecially if it's big.

If anyone has a back or neck issues I recommend Teeter Hang-ups, it's one of my most valuable possessions. Its also Great for your knees, hips and organs.

I also recommend a memory foam mattress topper, get some piss proof fitted sheets because if not you will sweat into the foam and kill it, also it makes the foam not as hot.

Get yourself a lacrosse ball and position it between a wall and your shoulders, shoulder blades, traps, etc. You'll find the spot soon enough. Check out Kelley Starrett on youtube too. He has a lot of good info on stretches, myofascial release and some posture stuff. I had what was basically a year long "stinger" in my neck and shoulder on my left side that would always become inflamed and painful after surfing. The lacrosse ball smashed it all away. I keep a couple at home and my office.

^^^^ i second this lacrosse ball thing. Do it on a fairly regular basis. It complements the stretching/yoga routine nicely.

Thanks bro!!! I'm in need of something to get the kinks out. My neck/trap stinger comes and goes every year or so, after the roll over. Tai chi and yoga help but when I surf alot, it starts to flare up. I'll give it a try.

I got a lacrosse ball and tried sitting on it, now it's stuck. I don't think that method works

Kelley Starrett is definitely a CrossFit bro but he knows a lot too. Here are two shoulder mobility videos. Check out his hip mobility too.

I posted some stuff about Mobilitywod a few years back.

My son gave me "Ready to Run" and Becoming a Supple Leopard" by Starrett for Father's Day a couple years ago. Good Stuff...

I haven't read any of his books yet but I've been meaning to. If you ask him, and many others, this desk and chair is killing me.

+1 on Teeter...has done me well.

Also, the Lacrosse ball works. I use the Supernova to break loose those nasty knots, which is a larger set up...and a golf ball for tighter spots.

Have you ever tried stretching prior to surfing??

I hate to break it to you- but as you get older you'll start to notice that your body doesn't work as well as it once did. Stretching helps...

Btw I have never heard of your whiplash sickness... have you tried asking the drs here on Swellinfo?

There is no way I believe that a surfer became a doctor, maybe a doctor started surfing.
