redondo normally blows for surf but some spots worth checking locally: fishermans wharf at the end of torrance blvd, little jetty at the end of topaz st (south side can pump if you're a regularfoot), and the south end of the bay around via riviera.

if you're willing to travel and do OK with crowds, hit up the 405 south to beach blvd and head to the huntington pier. from there you can see a lot of waves and take your pick... if the waves are up you'll have to deal with groms, posers, and rippers. if they're down you might be lucky to find a wave that's uncrowded but working.

405 will basically get you anywhere from redondo... you can check the hermosa pier or head up to manhattan/el porto/dockweiler (water gets a little nasty here). good luck and don't let the douchebag locals get to you... chances are you surf better than they do anyway :D

If want to stay in the South Bay, El Porto would be your best bet, it can pull most swells, but it tends to be a closeout beachbreak. But remember, this is a South swell. L.A. area will not be as consistent or big from a South Swell. L.A. is more of a winter break. ANything from Huntington Beach to San Diego will be much better, bigger and cosistent. SO, H.B., Newport Beach, Salt Creek, Trestles, will be working good. As in crowds, there will be people, try the dawn patrol, plus it will be more glassy anyways. As long your not getting in peoples ways, snaking, or droping in, you won't have one problem with anyone in the water!
