Okay, so i just caved in and bought an iPhone, and being a solid SwellInfo loyalist, I immediately bought the SwellIfo "applet" for a few bucks. The applet is great- easy interface, easy to read on a phone screen, all good. One question, though- the forecast on the iPhone differs from the forecast on the website, at least for OCNJ and Southern DE. What gives? Any advice on which is more accurate?
I'm looking at it right now and both the Delaware and Ocean City pages are exactly as the forecast is on the site. For Ocean city, NJ Swellinfo forecasts for 2 different beach facing directions. On the iPhone, there is only 1, which is the default (SE direction). If you are looking at the SSE forecast, than that could be the issue, but I'm doubting it. What are the discrepencies that you see? Click on the refresh button (bottom left) to make sure you have the latest data. It should update automatically, but just in case.
usually only the forecast that is on screen when i start the app will update automatically. When I flip to other forecasts it will say "update failed" -- but will update if I hit the refresh button. Although, I just checked on my phone now, and everything worked fine
The main differences i've found are with the color coding. I'm looking at Saturday and Sunday on the iPhone and for OCNJ it's showing blue/red (am/pm) for Saturday and blue/blue for Sunday, whereas the website is showing red/red and blue/red. Maybe i'm placing too much emphasis on the color coding, but personally i'd take 2-3 foot glass over 4-5 foot choppy slop any day!
Huck, The forecast should be exactly the same (and indeed is - i checked) as this forecast: http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/ocean-city-new-jersey-se.html but, will have some slight differences to the OCNJ SSE facing forecast: http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/ocean-city-new-jersey.html make sense? In future upgrades, I will try to work in the multiple facing beaches we have for some of the locations.
Yep, that clears it up. i never knew there were two different forecasts for OCNJ. You're right, I was looking at the other one. Thanks.
