Just got my latest fire check. Made Five Grand gross and got 2800. Being taxed at close to 40 percent of my income which is less than $20,000 a year and working a job I might die. It would be worth it if I at least got some social services like every other first world country but nope not even healthcare. What is wrong with this government people?
Taxes is what is wrong. The government steals from you and gives your money to others and themselves. Great deal for the lazy and corrupt but sucks for the working man.
i mean hypothetically they pay me in tax dollars, and then take 40% of my income and make me pay taxes with it. The redundancy is what pisses me off, just give me a flat rate of $8 an hour don't tell me it will be $12 and take almost half of it away when i make a little overtime. \
AND most of what you buy is taxed again. AND you pay for road tolls. AND you pay for all your documents. AND so on and so forth. Thats why I think the whole democrat republican thing is BS. How about some free thinking instead? If this thread turns all political im out.
in 2005 i started working for the Florida Dept. Of Transportation as an Environmental Specialist II. my first job was to manage the dredging of a canal in Ft. Lauderdale. The canal had filled with sediment from a stormwater drainage pipe connected to a state road. The sediment was contaminated with petroleum products and therefor it became my project. $998,000 was programed to complete the task. When the job was done the was still $36,000 left over that was not invoiced. I thought "cool, we came in under budget". NOPE! The dept. manager looses his mind and tells me we have to spend the money left over ASAP. We got our consultant to hire a public relations firm and survey the neighbors along the canal. They then printed up these nice folding flyers to distribute to the people in the area. It magically cost exactly $36,000 to get it done. That was just one example of a long list of waste i witnessed while a state employee.
I actually think the root of the problem is that just about EVERYONE wants, demands that the government to perform some sort of service. They might b!tch all day long about the services that they think are wasteful but at the end of the day what matters most is making sure their pet issues are addressed, and I mean addre$$ed. I live in a conservative county, made up of voters who constantly complain about how much money they send west of the bay, and at the same time demand drainage projects (the entire county is basically converted wetlands) road projects, dredging projects, police on every corner, ag preservation funding (to "preserve" ag land with tax dollars that is only tillable because of taxpayer funded drainage ditching) on and on.
IMO the issue is state government being involved in canal dredging to begin with. Localize the maintenance hrough user fees, and the constant motive to spend other people's money goes away.
that is part of it certainly BUT is the execution that cause the issue. a few years ago the GAO did a report on Govt waste and it was staggering. Multiple overlapping and competing programs to the the same function. Its not just assistance programs either. the Pentagon is horrible. The General must have their wizbang gadgets and they cost. They pleaded for the F35 to replace the A 10 but the A 10 cost peanuts compared, and actaul warfighters love it!!
Hike up your W2 withholdings and exemptions where you get to keep your money and only pay your required tax. The problem is that you have to estimate close to what you pay in tax. Otherwise you may owe money. I always think it's better to not get anything back at the end of the year. Why let the government use your overpayment when you can earn interest on it. **** em.
We do need services. I think the problem is government employees and the pension system which is bankrupting many states. Our taxes pay their salaries but they expect a raise. The private sector isn't giving many raises these days but the govt employee thinks they deserve one with our money. Sorry they need to lower these incentives and get rid of pensions for new government employees. That could save states a good deal of money. The problem is that the govt douc he bags will just spend the extra money.
this is the smartest thing to do. They'll get less out of you in the end. Many people don't realize you have control over this.
That's f'ing madness. Why is it so high? I make around 30 gross a year, pay 18%, and get a solid chunk back in april (interest on student loans and mortgage)
i get 1,550 taken out of every 5K - I Thought My taxes were bad... You probably pay into a pension, dues and 401K, yeah? You can always add allowances to your tax form. I Put "3" down last year, got a $200/paycheck bump, but owed $895 on april 15.
What he said. Your job is specialized, so it's possible tax with-holdings are handled differently. However if they are handled normally, you may simply need to complete a new Form W-4 to update your allowances/dependents. If your pay is run like a bonus payment, the Fed with-holding is generally a higher flat rate of around 25% I believe. Maybe they are running your pay as a bonus payment?
