Wow! Over 21 pages of back and forth political talk. I try not to talk about politics. I doubt very much that there is anything that has been said on this thread that has changed anyones mind about their political beliefs. As far as wanting someone to back up their statements with proof is just a waste of time. There are plenty of statistics that can support that Obama is doing a good job and there are plenty of statistics to support that he is not. It's all subjective. There are lies, damn lies, and then there's statistics.
Where do you liberals get this information to rewrite history? Yes there were some diests that were founding fathers but the majority were Christian Protestants. Locke and Paine are often quoted for the anti religion crowd but the majority of the founders of this country, including those that wrote the Declaration of Independnece and Constitution were Christian. They even wrote that our rights were inalienable, being bestowed by God. That is a fundamental core of the founding of our country. Our rights as humans come from God, not from man and from it's government. This is what makes the US so different from so many countries that have failed for hundreds if years. You can't take away our rights. We were born with them. But liberals would make you believe out rights are provided by the government. And they like to rewrite history like your post.
Take it issue by issue and then you can have real political discussion. The blanket "you liberals/conservatives" only perpetuates the childish, inflammatory generalizations. I've voted for candidates from both parties. We now have a gay, white, republican mayor in Atlantic City.
And people get their panties in a bunch over a few hilarious pictures. A picture IS worth a thousand words.
Its taken way to long to finish this thread, i say we vote for the crack smoking Canadian mayor for.president!
wtf!! I going to have my new camera by Friday swell, but I have to to wait for the fing water housing!! What the hell is wrong with this country? Bet I could get POOP IN A BAG by FEDEX over night, fing commies.
You've got a point Stinkbug, many of them were Christian, there's no doubt about that: "Lambert (2003) has examined the religious affiliations and beliefs of the Founders: Of the 55 delegates to the 1787 Constitutional Convention, 49 were Protestants, and two were Roman Catholics." So yeah, it was founded by Christians. But don't forget that the colony of Rhode Island was founded on religious freedom; don't forget about THE FIRST AMENDMENT: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." So, yes, our nation was founded by religious men, but many of them viewed man's relationship with god as a personal issue, and both Madison and Jefferson supported the firm separation of church and state. And the First Amendment at the very least supports the separation of Church and State; while possibly prohibiting any government relation to the Church at all. So stop pretending that you're 'bringing the facts' while others are "rewriting history." Because you're making a very biased interpretation of it yourself. As far as your point about US success, it has more to do with religious and ethnic diversity than it does anything even remotely religisous. Like today's Germany, it is a modern nation-state, built across boundaries of language and culture in the supposed name of prosperity for all. This nation was founded by turning the poor whites on the Indians, until they were obliterated in the name of Manifest Destiny. Then they turned them on the Irish and Italian immigrants, until they were assimilated. Then they turned the Irish and Italians on the blacks. And today they're turning everyone against the Mexicans (and OTM's!). In 20 years they'll turn the Mexicans against god-knows who... This is all very easy to look up.... that's how capitalism and empire building works. Through assimilation. Alexander the Great. The British Empire. The USA. Except the USA obliterated the native nations, they didn't have 150 million Indians screaming for independence like Britain did. Hence our 'lasting power'. Anyway, f*ck religion in government, it IS bad. Iran... Saudi Arabia... the Taliban, old England, Russian orthodox. All countries with religious oriented or controlled governments. How's that working out for them?
Hanna - You make some good points. "Proof" was probably not the right word choice on my part. I've had many political discussions in the past and could always back up my statements. Still I never changed anyone's mind, nor did they change mine. These days I just try to avoid altogether any discussions about politics. It really is all subjective. Take the ACA which you like. Roughly half the country likes it and the other half doesn't. How is it that people see the same thing so differently.
You poor, misinformed fella you! Firstly, where did you get that I am a liberal from? I am no such thing sir, thank you very much. Secondly, who wrote the declaration of independence? There were 5, but most credit is given to Thomas Jefferson, who authored the original draft. If you are going to tell me Thomas Jefferson was a Christian, I have no need to try and make you look like a fool because you have accomplished that all on your own my friend. Also, John Locke was not a founding father. True, he influenced them immensely, but he died in 1704. And yes, God is a big presence in our country's history. Do you know what a deist is? I'll fill you in. They believe in a higher being, or "God", but he does not mettle with our ordinary human affairs. They don't believe in Christ, which is the basis of Christianity. So, the God in our declaration is not the Christian God, imbecile. I suggest you stray away from your highschool history and Christian books and read some god damn real literature about the founding fathers of our country. It's so sad to see people like you who feel so strongly that they are knowledgable on a subject but are so far from it. Do your research before you mess with the big boys, hombre. "As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion.."- John Adams (one of the founding fathers), Treaty of Tripoli
whoa - angst on a national scale! beware the next election; theres' much to bubble up to the surface. in latin america there is a wise-saying that goes like this: get it done BEFORE THE ELECTION. (cause, afterwards, things might be different.
You have me mixed-up with someone else, which is why I don't get involved in what somebody else called "psedo-intellectual" discussion in politics. I never said, ever, that I want to leave the USA. Other than for a short vacation. Why should I?? I have, as you state, sucked up all the resources leaving you with nothing. To that end, I can only say, "Great job"!! I do, however, like to throw out one line blasters so you can get all frenzied up. BTW, there are NO intellectuals on this site. Now you all can all get frothed up with that one!! hahahaha!!
Obama isn't very liberal. That is why I think much of the right hates him. He is too much like them. Dude is all about big business as well, which plays right into the standard right wing lobbying. He also rolls over for big oil and gas. I am just waiting for leadership that takes the best of both sides. I won't hold my breath.
