That's just sad......

This morning I had the pleasure of watching a surf cam featuring a panoramic view of Ocean City, New Jersey. I don't know what it's like where you are, but OC was knee high with the occasional waist+ wave popping up.......here and there.

Down around 4th St. a pack lingered, off the north side of the jetty, about eight or ten deep(HA "deep" was for all you G's out there). Now first of all, VIOLATION right there. On small inconsistent days, during the winter, do not pack together. NON !!!!! Seriously, first come.....first served.....go find another wedge somewhere else.

Then with every peak that popped up, everybody was scrambling and jockeying........as the knee high wave fought the high tide to crumble down the beach. In the brief period I watched, I saw five drop-ins. This is unacceptable behavior for January. These antics belong in July, not winter. Just because you saw the movie Blue Crush doesn't mean you have to surf. Darn you Bodyglove for making such great wetsuits these days that all the summer types now surf in Ocean City during the winter.....That was Bodyglove.......Pick one up at your local surf shop.

Kudos to the dude that rode a knee high banger for about a hundred yards....he just kept going....an going....an going.

 

Absolutely, I don't go near OC anymore, and I'm addicted to Mancos & Mancos(man, this is like the fifth time i have mentioned their name, HEY give me some pizza, Manco....and your new name sucks.)

I ask the drop-in guys who may view this.......give me an insight into your mind.......Why do you drop in, especially if there's no crowd? How do you drop in and then casually paddle back out and sit ten yards/feet from the dude you just burnt. Do you guys think you're tough and you can bully people around? HAHA, surfers are bad-arses!! Are you just so arrogant and stupid that it just doesn't even register? What's the deal? If you need someone to help you type or articulate your thoughts just hit me up. I will help you. Oh by the way, surfers who think they're tough: You're not. Go to Camden, Philly, Newark, Norfolk or where ever......show them how "tough" you are.

I call all drop-in dudes to give us the reasons you just drop in on people.

 

Right on, Zippy........really if there is only ONE place breaking.....is it worth sitting in a pack? And you could find another crappy peak somewhere else, I'm sure of it. The ocean is weird.......that place that doesn't look to good might get better when you paddle out. Plus karma will reward you for not joining a pack........maybe........

 

Yes !! I avoid people in the water as well. Let's face it, we on the right coast deal with peaky beach breaks....yeah, you New England guys have rocks and points, I know.....But everytime I watch a pack it's always the same thing - dudes trying to out-joustle each other and either blatant drop-ins or completely oblivious drop-ins. Why do people subject themselves to this? Why? Yes, I know compared to other locales we don't have crowd problems, but why not take advantage of that and find your own peak.

So if anyone's out I will sacrifice a level of wave quality for peace. But alot of times that area that didn't look as good, might start working thirty minutes later.....well my area is completely skhitzo.....So who knows......

Yeah you don't want to sound elitist but there is something wrong with guys who only surf in the summer and they show up at the best spots and think they are entitled. That's just wrong in my book. When I was a newbie I kept away from people, and in no way did I think I should be out at the prime spots. People who dedicate their lives to the ocean deserve some perks. This isn't some hobby, right Spicoli.....

Oh Lordy, I just love when you say, "What's up" to someone and they ignore you.

 

Umm most of Ocean City sucks south of 14th St. I'm not saying that 14th is on right now. I don't know, but downtown-north is where the waves are at. Yeah I've had a lot of good times at the south end(it has it's years) but in between almost always sucks. Mid-island OC is dismal, man.

Mack & Mancos is overpriced but it doesn't suck. I'm not an Ocean City local, real or imagined, so I guess it's cool for me. Well, what does Gesler, Kelly and all the other cool guys like? Yeah it must suck, it just has three locations within spitting distance(two of which are closed in the off season). I guess tourists' palate for pizza isn't as cool as world reknown Ocean City pizza connoisseurs. So pray tell who has the kill pizza in OC? About six years ago I was walking down the 9th street boardwalk ramp with a fresh Manco & Mancos pizza in tow. Some dude came riding by on a bike and yelled, "Mack & Manco's sucks !!" I laughed and said, "OK Dude....." Was that you NJsurfer42 ?

Every personal pastime or individual sport is a selfish pursuit. People don't fish for others. People don't masturbate for others(usually). People don't bowl for others.......
