what it started as, (i think someone tried to fix it with plaster??) after delam and cutting, eye balled some fitting outlines. after basic sanding. all eyeballed i know its uneven. when i purchase a plank, it wont be EPS, and ill actually take measurements. hard angled edges im trying to figure out how to smooth. afraid to hand sand it because the foam is so beady
Ive never run into EPS that is too beady to hand sand. 36 grit sandpaper on a wood block with a light touch beings it down nicely, then maybe 60 grit and 120 grit to make it smooth enough to paint or just glass. I hope that rail is near the nose of the board! Doesnt look like it has a bottom edge.
yes, thats about 1' from the nose, though that rail profile continues down to a hard flat tail about 1' from the tail. i should have taken more pics of the original board, but that is basically the rail profile that the original board came it. a bit rounder, but almost an upside down pinched rail. thanks, ill grab a block sander this weekend, that was pretty much about what i was planning to do. we shall see...
I've shaped boards with a knifey rail like that and they didn't work. Unless there is a chine with a hard edge on the bottom they will be slow and unstable. Even with the chine they sucked just a little better. I was convinced I was a ground breaker and just came up with a revolutionary concept until I rode it. Then I realized I was a dope and smarter heads then mine came up with the standard rail profile because it works.
sanding block is working perfect. I had just read it was harder to sand smooth and was anticipating it breaking off like a cheap styrofoam cooler. razor rails are fading away....
ordered my resin, glass, and fusion fcs plugs, will let you all know how it comes out in a few days, outta finish it by this weekend.
