millions a year? Not sure if that's true. The top guys, probably. But not all the Eddie competitors are the elite in competitive surfing.
I'm glad they are running it but some of these waves don't look like the minimum wave height requirement. There are some bigger ones though. Edit: Just saw some of the earlier footage and there were definitely waves that hit the minimum.
Quicksilver probably paid him to say that. The event is 100% marketing event. No "aloha" spirit in it at all. Extinct. BTW...I wish the three announcers would just STFU!!!! Talk about morons--they were talking about this being a "spiritual event" earlier, all the while sitting at a desk with "Quicksilver" ads blazed all over. So, I turned the sound off.
That was a solid wave Jamie O took off on. Barry, your like the antithesis of Aloha...You probably would not even realize the Aloha Spirit if a sweet wahine kissed you on the cheek and put a lei around your neck. The event is in Memory of Eddie Aikau....somebody needs to sponsor it and Quik helps to make it happen...in turn they sell a few T's.
I take that as a compliment. Why?? "Aloha" is a farce. As for a "sweet wahine kissed you on the cheek and put a lei around your neck"...that is what you as a tourist has been suckered in with. Marketing. Sounds like you have fallen for it. I haven't. As for sponsorship, I see nothing wrong with it. But then it is no longer a "spiritual event". It is a commercial event. Period. Call it what it is and stop the bullshiit.
I figured you would. I will admit that the islands as a whole has lost some of its "Aloha Spirit" but it does exist. Like I said....you just would not recognize it. I can guarantee you it's a spiritual event for many of those competitors. I spent a decade there and have traveled there numerous times since. I am not going to argue with you on the tourist thing....every time I go I consider my self a visitor. Aloha Barry!
Well, you are honest about being a "visitor". I would do exactly the same. When I go back to PR, I consider myself a "native", because I was born and grew up there. Anywhere else, I am a tourist. BTW, the wave conditions are really ****ty. Waves a big but not that big, but really disorganized and crappy. I would have canceled.
