The Cartels were always mellow. They had law. They had rules. It was all about money. The real cartels weren't kidnapping people or bringing ANY attention to their business. That is how people used to disappear. Don't mess with the money and it's all good. Now that there are so many different cartels cells down there, there isn't as much order and the money is lopsided. So you have this cut rate, two bit cartels who are eating off the scraps that the bigger ones don't have time for. And these are the rodents that are out nickel and diming tourists and stuff. Back in the day, the big hand would have cut them down, but now, there is no one sitting in the throne. Nobody has to answer to anyone.

i think what your friend is alluding to with respect to peru - and i think i know cause i've been
13 times, is that the offshore wind is a little hard to find. there are ways but still, its a bit hard to
    find 'viento encontra.'

peru or baja? i think baja would be cheaper on the plane ticket side, what about nica land of the offshores? ive herd its considerably cheaper. i would head straight to belmar but im not that skilled yet to handle those bombs.
i think if we all had the money it would be straight to indo.

I'd have to say 'good luck' with those fares; I don't believe they actually exist. I used to be signed up with AA & UA for their alerts when fares from DCA & IAD to specified locations would hit certain levels. Yah, well, I'd get the alerts, and go online & search & search for friggin hours until I wised up: those fares don't exist. There's plenty of people who did the same & posted scathing feedback for the airlines. But, they still do it. It's totally bait & switch. And the airlines wonder why their clients hate their guts...

IMHO, you can't get from the east coast to SAN for anything less than $500 in coach & a crapload more for biz / first. Esp from a secondary market like where you're located. No offense intended - - the airlines are boning everyone. Now that they're profitable again, after we taxpayers bailed their asses out after 9-11, they're totally sticking it to us all. And the pols are quietly going right along with it.

I've been to SAN x3 in the past 6 months. Fares are steep. SAN is a limited market; nothing like the access that LAX has, for example.

Fortunately for me, I receive around 1.2 million miles & points per year. Haven't paid for a plane ticket since, well, maybe the late 1990's. Sure does make surf trekkin' a whole lot less painful on the pocketbook.

BTW, I think you should take Blasters to SoCal. A full report will be required for all of us upon your return.

Don't think it is legal to take a rent a car to Mexico, I could be wrong but I would check that out before flying out there

I wasn't able to find $99 from Baltimore to San Diego, but I just bought tix from BWI to SD for September flying out the 8th and coming back the 15th for $169 each way, and both are non-stop. $350 aint bad and that's pretty much what I've been paying to fly R/T to the west coast.

yes - it IS what those marvelous overview photos say it is. staying in pta hermosa - which ALWAYS has
surf - then burning it up the hi-way to chicama is the way to do it. in chicama its ALWAYS OFFSHORE..i'll
say it again its ALWAYS OFFSHORE. the third section (la tercera section) is circular and YES your legs
get tired so nowadays find 'pulpo' and hire him to do jet ski assists...
