If they report it as knee to waist, it's probably more like waist to chest a lot of times. There have been countless times where they report it flat but it's F'ing waist high out! A lot of times I'm done with my DP session before they even update, so by time they report they have missed the best conditions typically.
Forecasting the east coast is no easy task. After all these years the weather and its patterns never cease to amaze (another way for me to say I have mis-called the surf many times over). I think some of the forecasting on Surfline (their weekly global report specifically and Willis' commentary) is pretty solid. The daily reporters are calling it as they see it almost in real time. Big difference in reporting an forecasting. Look at the model rum Mitchell posted up...he is digging deep to try to forecast this thing versus looking at green men to know if it's glassy or not. Weather is hard to predict but the modeling helps and how one articulates it in a report is not telling me much that I Don't already know
I use sound to tell if there are waves and to approximate size: 1) Open the window, 2) Listen, 3) If I don't hear waves there aren't any, 4) If I hear waves, judge size by volume. 5) Surf or go back to bed. Works every time!!
Eh....? I yakked on Katie because she's the one that did the FUcast yesterday. How could that not be clear? You want me to yakk on Kurt Korte when he didn't even post the FUcast? Makes about as much sense as those guys running around suburbia in the John Wayne Gacy clown outfits. I'd like to alter this statement. They don't ALL suck. Mike (Watson I think) does a good job usually, most accurate and more detailed than the others. He seems to know what's going on.
