    AS I see it, the next generation will see surfers as mentally defective and repudiate the sport--it will be labeled "LAME", and no self-respecting teen will even go close to it. It will be like hula hoops. Same goes for snowboarding. The upcoming generation is too fat and lazy to even think of paddling a board out to a break. This could also be the demise of the bikini ( I will quit surfing then!!). They will be spending more time tweeting on how their war against diabetes is progressing.
    Now, if a board comes along that has a motor on it, then, perhaps, a few of the chubbies might go out, but only on flat days. And yes, I am aware there is a jet board now.

    Well Barry this generation of surfing is actually much fitter and athletic than the last imo.

    Waves and manuevers that wouldn't be considered are being tamed and the quality of surfing at the local breaks is mind blowing.

    However you raise some interesting points....kind of.

    If you want to see the future of surfing, his name is High On Life and he's currently eating a strawberry pop tart after a half day of school.

    We fully expect that within ten years he's going to be doing:
    * stand up barrel roles in massive tubes
    * busting inverted 360's on newly designed boards which allow surfers to paddle into huge faces
    * Kick Flips
    * Shove-its
    * Front and back flips

    I think the firewire vanguard and the firewire vader are the future of surfing.
