i've messed around w/ amateur photography on & off since i was about 16, but this is something really cool. if you like cameras &/or photography at all, this is worth a look! http://www.nikonosproject.com/
yes. 35mm. i actually have one, pretty interesting & challenging camera to use. very different from a modern dslr or even a more modern film camera. it requires thought & planning to shoot w/. the people who got good action shots on the site are either really talented photographers or really lucky.
Both, given the light meters of today. I remember my parents used to have one... No clue how my mom shot anything with it.
when you pay $5 for a roll of film and twice that to be processed and printed you think twice before you press that button
definitely. i like my dslr for when i'm traveling or doing something where i want or need to be able to fire off a bunch of frames & see what sticks...hanging w/ friends w/ kids, the neighborhood hawks & ospreys, surfing, etc...things that move or happen quickly. when i have time to frame a shot & choose my light & angles more carefully, i like the film cameras. the nikonos 35mm is a great camera to take to the beach when i'm on duty in the summer b/c if it falls off the stand into sandy shallow water, i can just take it home, swirl it around in a bucket of fresh water, & it's all good. i keep it loaded w/ b&w film, which can create some interesting vignettes, if everything comes together.
That's cool man. I'm actually saving up for a underwater housing for my canon. Want to get into submerged photo/video. Problem here is adequate glass and lighting. Oh and a ton of money... But I think it might be worth it in the end. First thing to shoot - the passing wave from under it. Cliche yes, but I want a shot of that I can say I took myself . Dslr is definitely more forgiving I this retrospect, plus 6 shot per second bursts in full frame ain't bad either.
so much money...so many expensive interests...i have told my wife in the past that i "need" a longer telephoto & a fixed-focus 35mm lens for the dslr. she just rolled her eyes. i just realized this all makes me sound like a better photographer than i am. i'm lucky to get 50% of a roll of film to be keepers & none of them would be up to par for a professional.
Dude I run around with a single 28-300 3.5-5.6L canon lens I own, so trust me, no judgement hahaha. Still, that lens makes it impossible to explain why I "need" fast primes... Two things I'd really like though are a tilt shift and a wide angle for architecture. I'd be so happy.
i got a canon ae-1 about 2 years ago. it came with some sh!tty push/pull zoom lens, once i got a 50mm for it a few months ago i could not put the camera down. i take my ae-1 literally everywhere i go now and usually keep it loaded with b&w film
i don't have the space for a dark room at present, but i have done so in the past & it was an interesting experience. i think if i were to get more serious about it all, or if my livelihood depended on my photography, then i would do it again. not real keen, at the moment, to have all those chemicals laying around the house, though.
nice. my dead minolta xg-1 looks pretty similar. it originally belonged to my dad. used it all the time in my teenage years when i was learning. ultimately got a really cool barrel shot of my dad surfing the south side of the frisco pier on a cold spring day in the mid-90s.
