Can anyone recommend a landlocked activity I can do on regular basis? Card Counting? Knitting? Banjo playing? Apparently surfing is no longer an option...

make a surfboard out of wood. Lots of research before and you can design it using AKU shaper program (which is fun to mess around with anyways). It has taken me over a year and I am still interested in getting it finished- 5'4'' mini simmons with some volume. about 3" thick throughout.

Get a skateboard and ride it down a bigger hill than you thought you could handle. Get a rush like on the big days taking off on bombs. Otherwise...Fall is coming, I would suggest going to the gun range and renting something to make you feel like a man if you dont own your own firearm. Im a liberal who enjoys some firepower. chootem.

Shooting guns is definitely a fun land-locked activity. +1 on that. There is actually a range right outside hilton head and the sign says, Come in and shoot fully automatic machine guns... That my friends I have never tried. I used to shoot a 45 S&W, a Dessert Eagle and a 357 in San Diego with one of my cop friends. That sh** was incredibly fun... I guess machine guns are the thing to shoot in the south. Remember Yankees, the south WILL rise again =)

Shooting at the range is incredibly fun, my Dad use to take me when I was younger. He taught me to shoot a .22 Semi, then a .38 Special, a 357 S&W Revolver (holy sh*t), and then the 9 Mil Browning (yowzer!), good times, good times...

That is what I've been saying for years on here. All these yanks think The War of Northern Aggresion ended years ago but they just don't realize it was just half time.

mountain biking - plenty of adrenaline and if you earn your descents (i.e. ride up, stay off the ski lifts) you'll be fit as ever for the surf.

So either you're sore losers, or you're still upset about the abolition of slavery? That's a bit f-ed if ya ask me. :)

So yeah, alternative activities...hmm. Learn an instrument, brew your own beer (big cost savings here), or take up water activities where calm water is a good thing. SUP exploring/fishing, kayak exploring/fishing, air chairing, rock skipping, streaking, etc.

If you are riding up trails at a bike park A you have the wrong bike and B you are pissing off the people who did bring the right bike.

So you actually still believe that the main reason for the war was for abolision!? Wow man go back to history class. Nearly every historian will tell you that slavery was # 3 or 4 on the list of reasons after economic issues and states vs federal rights. We left the union because it was broken (much as it is today) not because the north told us we have to give up our slaves. In fact the issues at Fort Sumter arose under Buchanan's admin not Linclons. We then secceded due to the election of Linclon and his proposed policies, none of which were yet directed at slavery. IMHO we should have continued fighting to stay a seperate country from the north. Let's face it attitudes, philosophy and morals are very different between the north and south of the eastern seaboard. Way more so than anywhere else in the country. I feel I can relate better to folks in CA all the way across the country than ones above the mason dixon line just a couple hundred miles north. This may have been a rant but I am so sick of the North VS South debate on here I really want the war to start back up! Since the late 1800's northerners have become more white collar while the southern boys continue to hunt, stalk and otherwise hone our killing skills. I think the war would turn out very different today cause as stated before we love some guns in the south (not me personally, I prefer a bow) especially semi automatic weapons, hell the guy sitting next to me at work owns 3 AR15's, 2 pump shotguns, 4 pistols and a cross bow and that's just one 26 year old country boy!

RCarter I ain't got nothing against you, so don't take this personally.

Good ol boys claim to live by the gun, but they rarely shoot humans. Up here in the North it's a killing field in MANY areas......Bullets are flying all day every day. Everywhere, not just a few cities like in the South. People love guns up here. They're angry and homicidal.

Jesus, dudes from NYC and Philly had to show you guys how to sell dope, for God's sake. You guys are like 15 years behind us in that stuff.

Californians bust on hicks more than northerners do. Really, I used to live there.

Yeah, yeah yeah.........I have heard this so many times, but yeah slavery was the main root of southern discontent. The whole region's economy was based on it.

So what were the top 3 or 4 reasons that came before slavery? What policies of Lincoln pissed-off the south? Be specific.....

Umm, Charlotte, Atlanta and other southern cities are very white collar and are leading places in the tech industries. You do realize that every state has urban and rural areas, right? We have areas of washing machine littered front lawns in New Jersey. And I see 50 deer stickers on the back windows of pick-up trucks everyday.

There's no big difference in attitudes and culture, unless you're one of them alligator killers we see on TV.

If you would have succeded from the union you would have gone under in ten years. You had no manufacturing. You would have been shunned, eventaully by other nations for your slavery issues. You would have been outcasts with a cotton based economy. The south would not have prospered. God, watch The Jerry Springer show these days. Can you imagine what it would be like today if the south had won?

Hey, what's the difference between a porcupine and a pick-up truck?

The pricks on the pick-up truck are on the inside !!!

LOL LOL LOL HA HA HA HA LOL LOL LOL HA HA HA

Hey, Rcarter relax, dawg. You guys still wouldn't win a war. Actually your statements are border-line treasonous......FBI, get this guy........

    for your edification: http://americanhistory.about.com/od/civilwarmenu/a/cause_civil_war.htm

BTW the south would crush the north easily nowadays.
