I yanked 6 teeth out before the stank ran me off. I made my talisman with one.

I have two crazy turtle stories...

About 15 years ago I "rescued" a painted turtle that someone had bought at a pet shop. The thing was about the size of a half dollar and was living in a one gallon plastic aquarium. I bought it a five gallon plastic aquarium and it started to grow a little. I fed it turtle pellets and cleaned it's little aquarium every couple of days because those little things STINK!
The next year I bought it a ten gallon aquarium and it continued to grow. The next year I put it in a 20 gallon tank... The next spring I put it outside in a hundred gallon pond with my koi. The damn turtle ate them all... My son started catching sunfish and crayfish for the turtle. The turtle would hibernate in the winter and be ready to roll every spring.
I was feeding the turtle a packet of dry cat food a day. When I would walk on the deck the turtle would come to the surface and splash around until you gave it something to eat. About 4 years ago, I brought the turtle down to a creek about a half mile from our house. It was early fall so I figured it would give the turtle some time to acclimate before winter. I figured good luck and good riddance.
About March of the following year I hear my dog barking in the back yard. It's about 6 AM so I go out to quiet here down. She is barking at something behind the fence. I go around the fence and there is the turtle!
I pick it up, bring it back down to the creek and watch her/him swim away.
    I haven't seen it since.

This turtle was now the size of a serving platter.

    Story Two is shorter.

I was at Wake Forest University with my wife and kids and we were standing on a little bridge that crossed a small creek and overlooked a marsh. I noticed pieces of hot dog and marsh mellow in the water. My son says, "Hey look at the turtle!" I look and look but don't see anything... He points and I see a little movement. I'm thinking oh... that's nice... it's about the size of a hub cap... no big deal.
Then It moved again. The thing I was looking at was the turtle's head!! It was an alligator snapping turtle...It was so big I couldn't comprehend that it was a turtle... I swear to god it was the size of the hood of a car... The thing took two paddles and was off into the marsh.
