Lower Trestles overhead to double overhead. The ultimate skatepark. Crowd can be annoying but it only takes a few waves to satisfy when its solid there.
You're in the lucky country with waves all over the place, a never ending list of things to do and see, but you choose to start and respond to multiple threads. Hmm.
yea, i thought the perfect wave was in Texas or S. FL or wherever hell else they decide to place a wavepool
The Perfect Wave is one that's right down the street, when it's going off and nobody's out yet. Something like this...
As a fellow NJ surfer, most of my life I shared your view that our good days were on par with anything. A few trips to the west coast showed me that even an average day on the west coast would be day of the year back home. Shoulder high Upper Trestles is better than anything you will ride in NJ in a given year. Catch a few days of head high to double overhead Lowers and your mind will be blown.
Catch it stomach to chest and you will be doing two - three of the best turns you will do all year and you will have caught it on an "off" day.
Now you know why surfers in the 60's and 70's were willing to risk sneaking commando style through the canyons and arrest at gunpoint by angry Marines...just to surf that wave. Personally, it's so crowded and aggressive that I've been over it for many years. Just so many other good waves nearby without the hassle. But Lowers is def one of a kind
No doubt, CJ... I've surfed many many waves around the world, and know there there are "average" days in some locales that simply can't compare to NJ on a "good" day. My point is... nothing beats the convenience of being able to walk to the beach and see empty, OH+ perfection.
RIGHT! this guy is even more jobless than other posters on here, or he is not on the east coast like he says
two best waves ever surfed maybe I caught them good or maybe I need to get out more Right: 2-3x OH el capitan, with 60 of my best friends left: seaside point both are over cobbles
Strange you say that about the crowds. I go there because I find it uncrowded and mellow compared to where I live in NJ. Granted I go during the week in the fall while kids are in school. Never had a problem with the crowd there. Oceanside Pier and T-Street are much more challenging crowds.
Hey LBCrew I totally agree... plus the fact that you'll catch it empty and catch so many waves that yours arms hurt. Even though we get stuck with a lot of rubber in the winter, it's worth it. A number of years ago I was considering moving to Hawaii. I was young and didn't have any ties in NJ. I had a close friend move out there and invited me to move out as well and stay with them until I get on my feet. So I went out there for 2 weeks to search for a job (prior to the internet being so popular) I remember surfing pristine waves- in trunks and warm water- BUT only got about 3 or 4 waves in 2 hours due to crowds and locals. Then I was sitting in traffic, during rush hour on a major highway. It was hot. And we where not moving. I had this feeling like I was sitting on 287... no different... so I decided to head back home. I never regretted that decision, even traveling back to Hawaii for a number of years after. Actually I think about it often- every time I catch my home break peeling perfectly and no ones out... which happens fairly often... There no place like home ... there's no place like home ... lol
