Sunday is the last day of the last year of Vans Warped Tour, here in WPB Coral Sky Amphitheater. Been going since it's inception in 1995. In the early 80s they used to give us a Surfrider booth free,we would have shade and a place for coolers all day, and hand out swag and raffle off a donated brand new locally shaped surf board. Good times. My wife an I will head out early and stay as long as the weather and the wife hold up. It will be epic!!!
I'm at that show in the picture on the front! You don't see me in it, but I was there! A lot of my friends always joked that I was the heavy set dude in the white shirt, because I was a big fat kid back then, but that's not me! Haha.
Journey To The End Of The East Bay is my favorite Rancid song, quite easily, hands down. I had those albums when they were brand new, and still revisit them quite a bit. Don't really like anything from Rancid post-2000. At least not a whole album's worth.
I also have not been to the Warped Tour in years. Probably not since the late 90's. I don't really like any of the bands they have on the bill these days, nor in the last 15 years or so. I remember when it was all my friend's bands, like Quicksand, Into Another, Orange 9MM. And other bands I liked, like Seaweed and stuff like that. Bands like Limp Biscuit and Korn even played on it back in the mid-late 90's. Like back when nobody knew them. I always they sucked back then, all the same.
Agreed, And Out Come The Wolves was the last album I enjoyed from start to finish. I still have the first 4 albums.
Definitely! I don't really like their first album though? It's okay, it's just kind of bland. And I don't like Matt Freeman's vocals at all, and he sings some of the songs on that album, since Lars wasn't in the band yet. He also sings a couple on Let's Go, but those songs are fine. I don't mind Life Won't Wait, but it's kind of hit or miss. The one from 2000 sounded a bit like what Agnostic Front was putting out at the time. I checked out that one album from the early 00's (The Fall Back Down album) and I thought it mostly sucked. The other albums since then are okay, but I don't listen to them, nor own them. I saw them last year. About a year ago, this time last year. Tim's voice is completely shot (it's been falling apart since the late 90's) and Lars looked like an old man. He's like almost 6 months younger than me.
Tim always had that raspy voice, which wasn't conducive to holding up over the years. Jesse Michaels had a voice like that in the Operation Ivy days, too, but he later adjusted his vocal style a bit when he was in Common Rider, so his voice didn't fall apart. I didn't really like Common Rider much. It kind of sounded like Jesse Michaels singing for a band that was popular at the time, like Blink182 or whatever was around back then. Just a more mellower Jesse Michaels. Tim and Matt from Rancid are definitely early 50's now, they were in Operation Ivy when I was still in high school.
