So guys we're going to start enforcing the rules that have governed the community for sometime with a few simple tweaks.

As you can see we are putting emphasis on hazing and name calling.

I'll be honest if this new system doesn't work we will be changing how infractions work and it will take less to be banned and it will be for longer. I hate to do it, I really like you guys, but the way we treat new people is horrible and it's going to ruin the site eventually. I'm leaving this thread open so we can talk about.

Adnim, in all fairness, most of the time the "new people" are actually long-time members creating alternate accounts to TROLL the forum and create a stir. Rarely does an actual new member come along, but when they do, most of the forum can tell the difference and welcome them proper. Some of the treatment you see is due to the fact that some of the members don't fall for the tricks and can spot a phony bologna account a mile away, and thus get treated accordingly.

why don't y'all relax the rules. Seriously. I've got no problems with censoring pornography and outright vulgar language. But I cast my vote for less moderation; what's offensive to me may not necessarily bother you, and vice versa... Why have three or four people who get to decide whether I should be offended or not? I am an adult (as are most other people on this site), and can determine that for myself. If I am offended, I can always chose to not read something. That was one of the things that made sites like eastcoastsurf.com great, the forum was not heavily censored by mods. Furthermore, if someone telling me to kill myself (in jest, or for reals) is so problematic for me, then maybe I should go somewhere else on the interwebs.

Sorry, I'm just so damn sick of this nanny state bs in damn near every aspect of my life, that I don't need some snot nosed little sh!t telling me what I can a& can't say on a half baked surf forum.

    Just my two centavos.

DP hit that on the head. Yes, when someone new comes a long there is a certain degree of hazing (Herro tread, pics of your grandma, how much do you bench, etc) but a lot of this is in good fun. Sometimes we do push the envelope, hell, I actually got an infraction one time because I said, "get lost" to a sponger. HA HA I felt dangerous that day. HA But, in all seriousness, some people create troll accounts to stir the pot and until we can stop that, the natives will remain in fight mode. I get fooled, but then again, I don't care enough to try and pic out the clues. Bring down the hammer Thor-stin

Austin, Are you and the swellinfo team Hillary supporters? Just trying to figure out where these communist rules are coming from. I think mattinvb has it correct. If you don't like a thread or are offended, then look at another thread. I agree some stuff is over the top but guys busting balls is a normal activity in a man's world. It's part of our DNA and allows us to not take things so seriously. I personally think the forum needs more real communication. Not some filtered down robot language which is what will happen.

And seriously, "Go kill yourself," was just another way of saying "Welcome to the club."

holy fk i dont post for a week and this ****e pops up?? ok??? a little hazing is a right of passage and who hasnt been hazed? the only people that cant take a joke a few times have some soft skin. they then proceed to get aggro and insult member that are just joking with them. If you cant take a go fk yourself, or a fk you then you probably should go hide in your panic room for life because you wont make it in the real world. viva la south, #austina is a hoe.

[Just so all of you know, I was one of the original mods that Micah selected a few years ago. To be fair to a few of you, I was heavy handed at first and Micah addressed that issue with me and ever since my goal has been to be level headed about moderating the forum and uphold the expectations that the admins would prefer. From my vantage point, Austin's goals are pretty solid and reasonable and both myself and the other moderators want to support the culture that exists but within the boundaries that Austin has established.

IMHO, I think that Austin has been fairly level headed about the banter on the forum and has even encouraged us moderators to be sensitive to that culture. Our hope is to properly support Austin's goals and continue to enjoy the forum...but at the same time make sure that the culture on here isn't unhealthy.

Honestly, this is all pointless if you don't know how to stop people from making multiple accounts. With the availability of having access to multiple devices with different I.P. addresses, how CAN it be stopped? It really can't so people are just going to create new accounts and come back. It happens all the time, so why would that stop now?
