Why not just post a warning sign like they do at the beach about "Active Marine Life, Enter at your Own Risk", and "Danger Rip Current, Swim at your Own Risk". You can make it an auto-generated email that goes to the new person who just created the account and is also posted as a notification on their SI account so that it's easily noticed and will be read. As well as a sticky note on the 1st page of the forum.

Let me check out the back end options. This is a unique forum setup so I don't know if the welcome pm option would still work.

or, make new member serve time on the 'shoulder'. meaning they can only post in the surf related sections for a certain period of time before they can post in the all topics. This will prevent agenda driven posters as well as give people a taste of the flavor here so they dont get butthurt.

Not a bad idea, until they earn "Senior Member" status (which is a joke btw).

Austin, I recall it being said at one point that the level of moderation would depend on the type of thread it was. For example, If it's surf related, it gets highly moderated to keep these core threads that are most related to the website and it's content free of the BS and welcome to all.

But I also recall it being said that there is a non-surf related section of the forum that is moderated at a different level that allows for more flexibility with what can and can't be said and how much derailing of the thread can be done. Does anybody else recall this? I may of just had a weird dream about it or something IDK.

Typically we moderate less and allow more open posting in the non surf related threads, that is correct. I firmly believe in keeping technical threads technical although comments are always welcomed of course.

Yeah that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure we're still operating under that understanding is all.

Adnim, the title should have read:

Rules - listen here you motherfvckers!

Believe it or not, this prob would have gone over better! I didn't really see a prob with the first one, but some took offense. This is just a rowdy family, it is what it is. I think you have been a cool mod.

    Admin,

All would be forgiven if you could hook me up with the blonde in the "I was Deplorable" T-shirt in the side bar ad. That should be easy for a guy like you. Don't tell my wife...

An actual question: What happened to Whiskey Militia and Sesh Day? I bought some decent surf stuff from them over the years.
