DP and capecod, sorry for the confusion. It seems you two get it. But what about all the SUPs paddling out a crowded break, reefs, and points? We all know its done everyday. How do we get them to follow the etiquite that you guys follow?

The way I got it was that when I was learning, I was fortunate to have "seasoned" bros who were willing to take me aside and teach me not only technique, but also "manners", and I was willing to learn and apply it.

Like anything in life, you must have good instruction and be willing to apply it.

Additionally, we have a duty, once we get it, to pass on these values to the next "generation" of surfers. This also applies to other areas of life, as the with the privilege of knowledge and experience, it needs to be shared.

Hard to control what other people are doing but don't be afraid to speak up if you see something wrong out there. If they look like total noobs and have no clue then most likely they'll listen if asked nicely to go down the beach or wait till nobody is around to take a wave. If you explain the situation that it's a limited take off zone with lots of experienced folks they'll most likely not want to get in the way.

Most noobs are terrified of getting in the way of "good surfers". If it's an experienced guy taking all the waves then ask nicely to share with everybody else. They may not like someone saying anything to them, so if you get any push back then I would regulate or band together with those in the lineup to get them out of the water. No violence is necessary but if all else fails....

But seriously, most people don't want to be the cause of someone being unhappy in the water. If they don't know the deal, it's usually out of ignorance. A little education goes a long way and they'll most likely want to oblige.
