Another reminder to people... It's the east coast. Sand Bars shift. They come and go. Out of 180 blocks of beach in OC MD, on a normal day, I can only find a handful of spots that are breaking on a medium size swell. Hilton Head is the same. We have miles and miles of open, exposed beach, but only a handful of bars that actually work....

So just remember, just cause y'all are the first to crack it that day, doesn't mean that you are the only guy that knows that its working. If you are on the best peak within a 10 mile radius, expect a crowd. When they see you getting better waves where you are, they will find you.

I was king of the North Peak at the OB pier for years. I would go backside on ridiculous rights all day, alone while there were 30 guys up against the pier. It only takes 20 minutes before people see the deal, then my lonely little north peak would get infiltrated. You can't get mad at it. Its life. If people see waves breaking where you are, and it looks better than the empty peak down the beach, they are going to paddle out.

And if the crowds ale you, just take the sh** peak and move away. It happens. Thats life. But if there is only one good peak when I get to an open stretch of beach, and there is one guy on it, I am going to politely paddle up to him, get in line and start sharing that wave. Same applies if there are 15 guys on it. If the wave is better, the wave is better.

ANd down here, a better wave is just one that breaks, where down the beach, it may not even be ridable.

I will NEVER wear or purchase anything Volcom. And I will NEVER drink a Sam Adams beer ever again. Different story, but equal distaste.

God, I didn't even detail how much of a POS this guy was. When I told him I was from Maryland, he argued that there is no Ocean in Maryland. Then when I finally convinced him otherwise, he just bashed the entire east coast. Basically said, yeah, sure, you have "WAVES" over there. And jersey is the next pipeline... HAHA. At least you put your big boy pants on and came to a place that actually has waves. How can you be any good from a place like that?

There was freaking steam coming out of my ears. We ended up smoking them in pool. After that, he said something like, you can beat me all day on a pool table, but I will beat you all day in the water. I said, oh yeah? I'll see you out there &^%$# and we left.

They guy, legitimately was a top five surfer in the whole county. Two months later, he made a TWO PAGE SPREAD in surfer magazine. Yeah, SURFER FREAKING MAGAZINE, hucking about a 10 foot frontside air up in Central CA on a Voclom trip. Dude was nice with it... But the biggest FU** STICK ON THE PLANET!

    Zach you sponsored by ..Lost?

Zach, so you shreddah number one, huh.

Zach, all of Ocean and Monmouth counties have ample offerings with even a hint of swell. That's New Jersey.

So you ever tangle with that North Jersey bastard Mike Gleason?

Everytime I went to OCMD, the whole stretch from 30th st to 100th looked the same. But of course I went to 48th.

" You weren't out here in January, and now you're too cool to respond to a "What's up" "

+1,000 on this one SJB. Although we don't have the winter you northern brothers and sisters do, it gets cold enough to chase 60% of the surfers out of the water December through March. Then they come out and misbehave, act rude, and ****. I know some people don't understand, but I feel like I earned a spot in my line up by surfing there whether it was good or not. Whether it was freezing and choppy, or picturesque. Maybe that's the wrong way to think, but my dedication to getting a spot wired leads to my angst when I see "invaders" in my surf spot.

As far as your original postulization my man, I paddle in to crowds here because I've earned my spot (if only in my own mind), I have friends out there, **** a crowd, I'm a paddlemonster, and the best reason of all is, that the sand bars have not been lined up properly in about 2 years anywhere but the "standout spots" so if I want to surf a wave and get more than a bottom turn to close out, I have to surf the crowd. Trust me, I have been checking the not so popular spots, and as soon as the sand bars get healthy again, I'll avoid the crowds.

She is a saint. Although, we have both had our moments. I wasn't all that bad. The more time I spent away from the Baltimore area, the closer to a normal human I became. There are only brief flashes of nonsense these days.

Wardo is a herb. He can surf, but he is human garbage otherwise.

I like that. When you earn your spot in the lineup, you are usually protected, inside a local pack from the typical kookiness of the crowds. If you go to one of the better spots in the area, and you have some "juice" there, that is a free pass to enjoy good waves in a kook free radius, cause if you are at any good spot, on any coast and there are good waves, there will be an organized lineup, of talented people. Keep inside the pack and enjoy. All the riff raff can have the leftover muck. Having a constant lineup of good surfers is like having a constant Buzz Saw in the water, keeping kooks at a distance, because wave after wave is ridden successfully, with high speed and dangerously close maneuvers. Out of sheer survival instinct, the pack of clowns will keep their distance. When you see a guy flying down the line at 25 miles per hour and then they throw 6 buckets of water in your face, you keep your distance.

Zach instead of alcohol you should try heroin. It will make you happy and non-confrontational. Heck, you'll be hugging Volcom team riders.

That's weird, Zach, that you have a thing against Volcom. I hate Volcom for some reason. I don't know why. I just always hated Volcom and never understood why they are so huge because I never used to see naggers wearing Volcom.

And I generally don't harbor ill will towards clothing companies. I mean Volcom pisses me off more than Hollister.

Zach, I'm going to get a few 10mg percs today. It's one of them days. Oh sure, I'd rather head uptown for a bag of USDA or something, but I'm responsible. So responsible. Actually, I'd rather make love to mother nature but I can't right now.

I love this forum. I want to surf with both you guys. Hell we should have a SI surf meet and everyone from the forum meet up at a spot and surf together. Imagine the insanity of that? It'd be a blast!

Zach, you've come a long way since Harve de Grace !!

You know, I think, I should earn a position where I go. The head shredder is cool with me.

But F it, man. The new breed doesn't care aboot any of that stuff. It's not worth hitting the main peak June - September. It's just not. People just cluelessly paddle in front of people. They drop in..

Ha, I had this one dude say to me last year, as he paddled down my way, " Wow those guys over there are really unfriendly."

Then the next week I saw why. This guy had no clue and was dropping in on everyone. I mean he had no idea that he was doing anything wrong.

So, I'll stay away from all of that mess, no matter how much I'm there more than others.

It's just not worth it. Plus with shifting beach breaks, a 30 minute tide change can make that peak off to the side come alive. You win some, you lose some.

That's been mentioned before but most people on here like being anonymous. Why that is, I'll leave that for you to guess.

Hmm yeah that's bizarre, I'm sure there's a whole list of reasons why. I'm on a couple car forum sites and they're always hosting parking lot meets and what not.

But I think it would be an awesome idea, just picture our whole dysfunctional SI family at a break and having the whole thing to ourselves? No one in the water would dare mess with all of us, they'd be too afraid to

So...........it ain't never going to happen.

i think seasoned surfers do it because its their spot and they feel they have to represent. Zach gave an honest answer for it.

I think summer surfers do it because they don't just go surfing. they go to the beach and surfing is something they do while they are there just like frizbee or that game with the ball and wood paddles or building a sand castle. They travel in large groups already so paddling out to a larger group is no big deal. as they progress to surfing all seasons they don't now any better so they still pack up.

They haven't had that dawn or sunset session when its perfect and there a just a few guys out and there is no hassling and very little converstaion yet. They've never traveled to the beach alone for the sole purpose of going for a surf.

i would rather have 100 guys at one peak rather than spreading out. if they all start spreading out to the 5's instead of staying at the 7, Then the 5's will have too many people and I'll have to start surfing the 3's.

I've had some fun session with numerous people on here. It is never posted in the public forum though. Once you can identify that another member may be in your area, actually does surf and would like some local knowledge or some company in the water, then it's usually save to go do that. Any time I have traveled and given a heads up post on here, I usually always get some PMs with some good spirits and an invite. It's always appreciated and always a favored that is returned.

At one point, I was getting hit up about once a month by people coming out to SoCal. It's always fun to surf with people, put a face to a name, and from then on, I usually have a completely different outlook on the people I have actually met. I ALWAYS give them instant credibility once I know them.

I would be afraid of the disappointment of some many of my "heroes" on here if I found out they just couldnt surf. I don't care about anyone's general skill level, I just mean, I have a BAD feeling that quite a few people on here, by definition, cannot surf.

Only surf meeting I have ever been to, was surfingsandiego.com's meetup, years ago. probably like 7-8 years ago now... But it was the most disappointing thing I have ever been a part of. Ex marines and a bunch of guys from this site, even the girls all talked such a good game. On there day after day. Talking about their sessions, and the barrel.... Only to find out that these because can BARELY stand up on a board and ride the white water. I had never met such a large group, of inexperienced surfers in my life. Ended up befriending a couple people, but they were still terrible surfers. I mean, awful. It was a big let down.

For that reason, I don't think a "SI SURF CLUB MEETING" will ever happen. We should all meet up in Atlantic City for a night of debauchery. That will really leave a lasting impression.
