What's up everyone, as the title states, I'm currently looking into buying a new board and need some advice. I've only been surfing for about a year and a half now but have really gotten into it since moving out of the mountains in colorado into the flat lands of the east coast. Currently i'm riding a board shaped by a friend that is starting to meet its demise. The dimensions are 5'6"x21x2.25 and it has a fish shape. This was the board I pretty much learned on and really have loved the way it rides would just like something different. I try to surf as much as possible, but due to the lack of waves in the summer I purchased a winter suit last year and haven't looked back. I would really like something that would excel in some of the bigger surf say chest to overhead range. I'm about 5'9" and 170lbs. I was thinking something along the lines of a 5'10"x19-20x2.25 more along the lines of a performance shape. I definitely want to stick to a shorter board and wouldn't be against going custom but at this point I feel that a custom board might be a bit overkill. Some recommendations would be appreciated! Thanks. Taylor

i would recommend going to a local shaper if you really want a board fine tuned to your specific skill level and the conditions you plan on surfing in. any of the guys frequently mentioned on this forum are all great, but I would recommend Brian Wynn http://www.wynnsurfboards.com/. i've also heard great things about Mahady's boards as mentioned above. good luck
Welcome to the jungle Taylor. I used to live out there also. Definately support local shapers. They can help you with their knowledge. Pick up a funshape or a log too. Surf here varies like frozen storms out west.
