I’ve started surfing a while back and even before then was really into skateboarding(after playing countless hours of tony hawk on PlayStation as a kid). I’m going to college now and wanted to get a board for transportation and was thinking of getting a longboard. What do you guys think would be a good choice? I’m low on funds so I’m looking at “budget” longboards on amazon. What do you guys think of the Quest Longboard or the Atom Pintail Longboard. any input would be great
There's a reason those things are so cheap. If you're just cruising around you can get away with a cheap deck but you would want some better trucks, bushings, wheels and bearings. My guess is you will buy it and end up spending more to upgrade to quality brand parts. You're better off trying to find a nice board that is used or looking at clearance boards online at places like Muir Skate, Daddies Boardshop or Department of Goods. Also keep an eye on Whiskey Militia because they pop up on there frequently. http://www.departmentofgoods.com/complete-longboards http://www.daddiesboardshop.com/ https://www.muirskate.com/ http://whiskeymilitia.com There's a ton of good longboard info and a great message board on Silverfish Longboarding. Plus there is a huge classified section where you can score some great deals on used boards. http://www.silverfishlongboarding.com/ I have bought stuff from all of the above and you can score some great deals. Do yourself a favor and get a quality longboard that will last and you will be much happier. I have a board that I have skated often, including college commuting, that I bought about 10 or 12 years ago and I still skate it regularly.
Also check out your local Craigslist for a board on a budget. Feel free to PM me with any questions or specific boards and stuff.
