Just got the Kitchen Pass from a very understanding wife! Leaving tomorrow afternoon with my son for beach. I'll have to make the Thanksgiving dinner though, she's driving out by herself Thanksgiving morning. Fair trade. Let the swell commence!

2nd Beach will be way too packed. Too many spots down there that will be going off to be sitting at one fighting for waves.

Tides are very, very good late week in NE MA but you'll want to go just a bit away from where you're planning as it will be bigger and still very clean and points north on Friday.

Might have to find somewhere that is protected from the heavy winds.

Plenty of places to choose from with the South Swell and Northwest offshore winds on Thursday in Rhode Island.

Looks like I will be a late arrival for the first round of food and drinking...

Best two words in that report are "ground swell". I think I've got a swell in my pants now.

How do you get a groundswell from a storm that is primarly centered over land? Strong windswell more like it...

All hail a good woman :)! That indeed is a sweet turn of events for you. And here's good luck to all in catching some soon to be classic waves in the NC!

Hey, is it going to be cold down south? I hope so. Winter is here again oh Lord.......haven't been home for a year or more........

Crewsby of CBS, I'm not negative, lately. Just signifying and testifying the truth like Reverend Al Sharpton. Or at least, I'm not any more negative than I usually am. Life's tough up here in New Jersey, Crewsby.............There's nothing quaint aboot this place, except for Victorian Cape May and Montclair.

BBG, is this a conservative or a liberal swell? Or is it acceptable by you and MIS-13?

Best time to surf up here on Thursday?

Correct, two hours before dark, while all the loved people in the world eat food with family and friends. The outcasts and the unwanted will be out doing shreds at places like Metros and The L Jetty. Maybe in Foxhill.......maybe. Though most people up there are loved and wanted.

Ground swell? Watchu talking aboot willis, eh? That was the Canadian Arnold Jackson. T'aint no groundswell. Wind'll be coming around the mountain when she comes(tomorrow). Build thy surf and they will come o ye wind of fortune.

Ha Ha we're all lame.........talking aboot a swell like it's the second coming.

Ask SI admin brah since that's who showed it on their report. While there is certainly a system here on the land, it must have done some work out offshore a ways and the wind has been delivering juice to the waves for a few days solid now already. What's the threshold of area for wind swell/ground swell, 200-300mi from shore?

This approaching swell is from the storm that has been causing problems in places like New Mexico........it's coming across from the west. No impact on Atlantic coastal waters yet. It's hitting the southeast and coming at us starting tomorrow.

"The wind has been delivering juice to the waves for a few days now...." What waves? A storm can't affect Texas and the Atlantic simultaneously unless it's a gargantuan low of unseen proportions

If the surf builds from localized onshore winds, you're dealing with a windswell, Davey Jones.

east coasts in temperate zones that rely on fronts passing from a land mass>>oceans to create windswell are highly unpredictable, west coasts that have swell trains that are 'released' by storms (looking at the fetch aim, length(distance) and duration)and are marching coastward several days out are easier to predict. however dialing the local winds is just as shotty.

hurricane swell, once the storm has been marching towards the coast are easier to predict than windswells as the swell has been 'released' by the storm and its already 'baked in the cake' barring swell decay and or destructive interference .

    happy hunting!

and cep use a sic day

Sage half my post is asking questions the other half is talking about the gnarl of wind we've had here for days already on the coast in NE. To the tune of 64mph some places just inland in Mass that has trees and all sorts of things falling. SI forecast site used the words "ground swell" in the photo of the screenshot posted in this thread earlier. Whether that's another glitch in their system or not, I then started talking about the wind we've had since late last week that will persist through the week. Hardly New Mexican/Oklahoman if that system hasn't reached us yet. Educate me sage. What distance from the shore is the line between ground and wind swell? I know it has to do with duration and fetch of those winds also. Learn me good, sage brah.

I know you didnt ask me, but........
not distance grasshopper, but period. say 12 seconds for sheets and geegles
and if the fetch field is touching the coast, Id call it windswell, unless its a WHOPPER (for east coast) of a fetch field creating 13+second period then it would be a combo?

wish I could man,but I just started this new job, only been there bout a month and its basically a mom & pop type shop, where theres 1 boss and he does everything.i knew if id been there a few more months and we weren't so busy and I told him the waves were good he'd let me slide, but I cant just pop up tomorrow and say yea fuk getting this thing done im goin surfin lol.im just startin to get back on my feet with the work situation, and its hard mathematical shyt that im not that experienced in so my main priority is to show up everyday on time and playtime after work.only if it hit Thursday,or praise god the swell don't hit til Thursday, but im seein Wednesday, yesterday it was nothing.tomorrow it may say flat or decrease a few feet.by my eyes its the same setup as doomsday last year which would make my year.il probably drive to the beach on my lunchbreak, the actual spot iv been surfing for 8yrs is literally 3 blocks from my job,so that's another reason im tryin to keep it.eventually once my foots in the door il bring a few boards to the shop and have em on standby for pop up swells like this one.
