Most people will never concentrate on doing their own thing. Its instinctive for people to try to control / coerce each other (e.g. government).
And again, stoney, I agree with you. I don't liter, I scoop my dog's poop, I punch my loser friends who flick cigarette butts ANYWHERE.... I mean, I do the best within my OWN life to do what I can, but its just a stretch to start thinking, well, if I change and do this and that, maybe the world will change.... Yes, keep OUR country clean, keep our streets safe etc... But the environment is a global issue, so we have to speak about the whole world... So we may as well just let it go.... We can all go out, but a Prius, use our recycled grocery bags, start eating Vegan and taking mass transit to work, but that will only help us locally... Which is a start.. and its a good thing... I don't want people to give up... But its exactly what you said... A personal choice to make your own life, your own neighborhood better... We don't clean trash off our beaches in order to keep the beaches in India clean... We do it cause we like OUR sand, on our beaches... So, thats all we can do....
No I don't think if I change, the world will change. I'm just saying let's not sh!t where we eat (roughly). People can do whatever they want, whether its litter the beachs or pick trash off the highway ramps. You just won't ever catch me littering or blatantly polluting.
I'm with you, I wasn't saying that I thought you felt that way, I was speaking in general terms about the mass public in the US, not any of us specifically.
Exactly. Our founding fathers knew people are selfish, which is the reason they made the three branches of government and have checks and balances. To Zach, I don't agree that Americans in general are arrogant, thats way too broad, its the eviromentalists, policy makers who think they can control people. There is no way America alone can stop pollution. Global warming and climate change is BS. China opens a coal mine every 3 days..but climate tax? "green televisions"? organic? Its getting to be like the y2k...politically. Those photos are sad, and its just a testimate to how morals and self responsibility have gone down the drain...and my lack of spelling
ROFL...that is the funniest **** I heard all day! But it's a defeatist statement, change can happen if you make it. By no means, am I a tree hugger or an activist, but I do enjoy surfing and without the ocean how the hell you gonna surf?
Yeah, I guess arrogance is a poor choice of words, being that myself and the rest of us are all Americans.... I just mean, that most amerians, myself included are only worried about our own agendas. Left wingers are huggin trees complaining about child labor and global warming, mean while the right wingers are complaining about socialized medicine, health care and bad banking. I mean, whatever we personally care about, we push on the world, like the rest of the world cares.... I guess selfish is a better word than arrogant. And I feel pretty bad even arguing again enviromental activists etc... I mean, they are generally good people, trying to do something that is positive for the world, I just think they go about it all wrong. Not to say that its a waste of time, but it is.... Like someone else said on here. I don't need to buy a bunch of tee shirts saying, hey look at me, I drive a prius and I want to save the planet, But what I DO always do, and will continue to do, is quietly, pick up bottles and cans and trash and other garbage up off of my local beach. Everytime I surf down on the cliffs etc, byt the time I reach the top after a session, I have an arm full of garbage that I picked up along the way.... So yeah, I do my part just like everyone else does, but I don't walk around telling other people to clean up... I just shut up and do it. I dont organize "clean up your beach" events... I just clean up my beach.... Everyone just do their part individually, and the rest of the world will rott in their own hell once they are all standing in their own feces, breathing in black smoke that they call air... The world will shake the garbage off one day.
Where does it go?How does it flow? The candy wrapper you just threw out the window, where did it go?Just outside, right? No harm done.Your dog just dropped a couple of buds near the sidewalk-no need to clean it up .Nice heavy rain coming tonight. It'll just get washed away.County workers using some weed-killer on the local highway-the weeds are way too high.gotta kill'em somehow, right?Speaking of grass, gotta throw some fertilizer down-we noticed a few dandelions today.Darn little flowers.Hey kids,no need to pick that bottle of soda off the beach that'll just turn into sea glass one day.See all you little bacteria dudes at my next break. Gvibes
Everybody join hands now and let's sing Kumbaya. All joking aside, seeing people litter just burns me. It's like they're wearing a sticker on their forehead that says "stupid." I remember years ago on the ECS board some dude was talking about a tourist in Hatteras on the beach who had dug a big hole next to him in the sand and was tossing his trash in it all day. Then when he packed up to leave he just filled it back over with sand. For me it's not totally about the environment, its more about people who have no sense of responsibility. If more people would just use their damn heads we'd have a lot less to worry about, and not even specifically about just the environment.
have you ever read the instructions on a package of toothpicks? try it...it will tell you a lot about modern society.
