Is this long period swell gonna have some punch at all?

Surfinfo Buoys page showing buoys (41013 and 41001) off of Hatteras at 17 seconds, between 2 and 5 feet on swell height, right now(410pm)?? This seems to be NDBC's 3pm (250pm) update...

I hit it early morning and late evening, real fun both times... the early bird definately got the worm though in ocmd, cuz from about 9am to 5pm it got a bit messy and the evening session lacked the length of the wave a bit. Nice light winds in the morning served up a head high mellow wave.... hope it keeps up.

surfed mid oc this evening. it got pretty glassy around 6:30ish. waist to chest, shoulder high sets.

lumpy, i see what you were looking at with the 17 second swell on the offshore buoys. This is prob. a mix of the NE swell and the small long period SE swells. When there are 2-3+ signficant swells, the algorithm the NDBC uses to figure out the "swell" height and period from the spectral data can sometimes be misleading in determining individual swells.

Swellinfo model showing small 1-1.5ft SE ground swell (16 sec) moving into the coast tomororow and holding for the next few days. Will be interesting to see how this pans out. Sometimes, these small longer period swells can go unnoticed around here.

oc looks good right now @ 7:50 am... after yesturday it seems that the combo of the ocean floor, wind and high tide served up a prob. in the daytime so I'm gettin on it now. go get some!!!

The buoys had wave direction on then and were calling it out from the ESE, so I was getting amped..

Caught a certain spots very fun and very uncharacteristically uncrowded on Friday morning. Actually slept in until 8am and caught high and outgoing tide very fun with light NE to E winds for 4 hours...then hit it up at like 5pm again with a light to moderate SE wind and it was still quite fun downbeach for about 2 hours.
Then, got it AGAIN on Saturday AM...check a few spots and it was real wall-ey, then went to the trusty ol' spot again...scored super fun combo swell for 2.5 hours (despite the funky S winds) with only 4(!!) peeps out!!

Needless to say, those 2 days were more than I surfed in like the last 9 months....ol' bastad that I am..
