So I tried learning to surf it in head high crisscross mess with side chop and onshore 15 mph ... yeah it went exactly as it sounds. I did get to know the bort and find it’s sweet spot and bob around in that craziness and it paddles in super easy fast, plains right off and is a great indicator if the wave is even doable. Caught probably a dozen “get up and hang on” little rides but just couldn’t get the footwork/placement right and it’s unforgiving enough with that small a boart - then add in the mess and it was kook city all over again. Bad day to try it I know BUT now I know I can at least get up on it and ride if the waves are decent. One thing I figured out is if the wave is mushy? Bort goes right under when I’m up. No pushy? Me sinky like rock lol

You... need a solid clean wave to truly get to know that boart.

Your absolutely right. Someone else with some small bort time and experience could have made that crap work. I am really pumped at how quick and easy it paddles into a wave though - way easier than any on my LBs if you can believe it. And it’s a true indicator to me of if I have the wave or not. One very bright spot from today

One question: in your opinion what’s the smallest clean wave that boart will work on? I’m thinking waist high but some period?

Chest to shoulder high and semi-steep liners with some juice will let you find the gas pedal. Anything smaller and you'll be working too hard IMO.

Agree with SISD... chest high with a little pop to it, and you'll see some true colors start to shine. At your size/weight, my guess is that board will be good in waves up to about a foot or two overhead. After that, you'll probably want more rocker.

Thank you. That will be how I determine when I should try again.
Meantime I’m gonna rework my trainer for a short bort foamie and do my homework.

Sent you a PM bud. To me, for a guy your age with your experience..... sounds like you did good for a maiden voyage. Keep with it!

Got some awesome stuff Sunday and then we get a good swell today into tomorrow - already frothing.
Been doing dry work in between and Sunday’s swell proved it was working great. Waves weren’t really punchy, just swelly so it was a bunch of get up and goes for a little and then paddle out. Great for reps. Then went to big fishie for the rest. Today is supposed to fit the bill so I’m pumped to get some real rides on it!
And I feel THAT about looters...
Dirty scumbags deserve a bullet. Like hyenas. Probably a bunch of “victims” if you ask a liberal - who hasent had any of their shyt stolen
