So over the summer there was a lot of talk about the summer flatness, lots of excitement for hurricane season. When we got skunked on the hurricane season there was a lot of excitement for the winter. I personally had a great summer and fall, surfed a lot even though there were not many big days.

This winter has been pretty intense at times. Also pretty frustrating at times. I feel like its either been waist high at best or head high/slightly over head. Obviously the big days are welcomed but I find myself craving a nice mellow glassy chest high day. Its been really cold too, the majority of my surfing has been done with snow about. I had two days where I came out of the water with ice cubes in my beard. I was pleased with the summer, the fall, and I am pleased with this winter. I cant complain as long as I am surfing. What's everyone elses thoughts on this winter? Has it made up for the summer/fall we had or has it been a bust?

Last January was the worst that I can remember. This one, even with the extreme cold has been much better. December was pretty good too and I surfed a lot. It will be interesting if it continues through February and March.

IDK I think better winter Although it's probably because I'm more dedicated this year and definitely more tuned in . Maybe it's just perspective , Kinda like our moderator who keeps deleting posts . So yeah it's been cold but once your paddling for that wave your not much thinking about the cold or you wouldn't keep heading out.

Consistent waves, but stupidly cold in my area.
    I've had a hamstring pull, so I haven't surfed since December :(

I'm in 40 degree water wit a 4-3mm but its worth the feeling of being in the water with snow collecting on the brim of your hood+ there is way less kooks out

It started out great, but January has been awful down here in SC. Cold and flat or cold and blown out.

We've had a lot of huge days (6+ ft), but rarely clean conditions. It's a shame...with all the storms we've had there has been a limited number of good, surf-able days.

winters been great this year.wish I could say as good as last year, but last year we had epic sandbars thanks to sandy, and now the beach replenishment turned all my spots to heaving shorebreak.its good for boogyboarders, but sucks for surfing.i busted out 6 fins this winter already, surfing in shallow waters.im still missing 1 future fin,and I need a ding repair kit.i don't mind the cold,i work outdoors everyday and aslong as ur dressed right, its no problem, kinda like surfing.

VB has been hit or miss. Been fun when it's on, but I feel like the flat spells have been worse/longer than they were in late summer and fall.

It has been decent. A lot of fronts, but no big swell yet. We have had some fun days in the chest to shoulder range, some even clean and I got a couple of barrels last Wednesday. I have noticed lots of the low pressure systems go up the coast instead of kicking off the OBX like they used to do. So we have not gotten much groundswell, just wind swell and refraction swell mostly. But in mid February to the end of March we have been blessed in the past, so we will have to wait and see. But we had some runs of rideable waves lately.

Jersey's been consistent, up until recently, since mid-November. Coldest winter I can remember. It doesn't need to be double overhead when the water is 35 degrees and the air is 10. A nice stomach to chest high day would be nice and much more manageable.

^^^^^ That's what I am saying. Winters always cold, but this winter seems a bit more frigid. A lot of the big days here have been surfable, but not ideal. Lots of beatings, lots of paddling. I am happy if I'm surfing whether its knee high or head high so I'm not complaining but I'm hoping for a more mellow sizeable day. The 20-30+ mph winds are getting on my nerves.

It seems like we've been getting (on average) a decent swell per week here. Not great but many have come on weekends and some with warm spells and light winds. As long as I can get at least 1 go-out a week I'm good. Regardless of conditions, surfing beats running on a treadmill or staring at the black line on the bottom of a pool.
Looking forward to some good spring waves.

Warm day in Maryland today and some fairly fun waist high + surf and nobody out. Wind was crap until about 2 then it went west, then it went nw, then it nnw. Then from what I could tell straight north. Oh well at least I got in the water.
