I have 4/3 taped and sealed fullsuit. But its older and has a few good tears in key spots and flushes a little. I am debating on cutting it down to a springsuite or a john suite and just replacing it in the fall. What do you guys think? Water is 68 and air is about 75ish. Sometimes warmer or cooler. Its just too cold right now for me to trunk it.

I'd say cut it. If it doesn't work get rid of it. It wasn't working anyway

I've cut down many old 3/2s into s/s fulls. I personally wouldn't want 4/3 thickness in a s/s or short john suit that I was gonna wear in 70 water. I'd never use it.

Yeah thats kinda my thinking too, I figured the 4/3 would just be super thick and hot. The water isn't terribly cold right now and will be heating up to 80 in like the next month. So i didn't really want to spend 100 on a spring suit and use it like three times before going to trunks.

Anyone know anywhere I can get a cheaper spring suite that isn't complete ass?

It's not that bad cutting down an old 4/3. I actually used to surf with a guy who cut down his old 5/4s all the time...

Now you got me thinking... I got an old suite

I say cut it. I have an old 4/3 that I cut the legs and arms 1/2 way off and I've been wearing it for about 4 years like that. The spring suit window is only like 3-4 weeks here so its def not worth it to spend the money.

I cut mine just past the knee and just above the elbow. I like the longer legs so I still get knee protection and it easy on and off with ankle holes gone.

I wore it for like 5 sessions this year, was in boardshorts all weekend.

Why don't you check Wetsuit Wearhouse? They usually have some good deals

I cut the legs above the knees and went dawn patrol this morning. Little sweaty and the air was around 60. I'll probably cut the arms off when I get home from work later.

I use full aqua sphere 1.5 mm wetsuites for lap swimming in the pool all winter, for past ten years. They wear out quickly with holes and tears, so I regularly cut the legs off just below the knee, cut the arms off, or make them short sleeves. So that leaves me with 6 suites in various states of cut ups depending on air and pool temp.

It's worked out really well for Poole swimming. Don't see why it can't work for the ocean with your suite.

From the title, I had thought this was about bait.
