i used to do this when i owned my ski. you can bust like 15ft airs from a good wave lip. also, none of them burn diesel. mine burned high-octane unleaded & synthetic oil to cut down on exhaust smoke. mine barely smoked at all on this combo. i also never went in to use the waves for airs if there were surfers out. gotta respect each other out their

hey chuck i was there in oc today, some dude who was surfing called out to the guy on the ski and asked him to drop him into a few waves, the guy came over n picked him up and did a few waves with him and his friend, my buddy i was with asked him where he was towing ppl at and he said they were doing it at nsiri. i heard the guy clearly, he wasnt there for more then 20mins. Scotty is also right i have seen them at that same st 3 or 4 times this past winter.

I have seen a couple guys towing in this winter around 70th & a bit south a few times. Are the guys yesterday & the ones out this winter local? Waves looked pretty weak last night to be towing into anything, maybe a bit better earlier, but not much.

Yesterday was inexcusable for towing, it wasn't heaving up hard.

I have surfed around them many times before when I was jealous though.....those 20mph offshore wind days with 42 degree water and sets heaving top to bottom...coming in fast and fat. They usually seemed pretty respectful and stayed down the beach, and would give me priority if I was in position to paddle for a peak.

And op, just because your parents open up the beach house and you come down for 3 months in the summer, does not warrant you to claim local status on that break. Like was said earlier, these guys have been on every swell there since fall, it wouldn't be the first time you saw them.

They may be cool & seemed like it when I saw them out this winter, but if they were towing in anywhere close to where me & others were in the lineup they would NEVER get priority of any wave. If it was a group of people taking turns towing in & all agreed it would be different, but not with them towing into where others were paddling in for waves.

I don't get why anyone would want to be anywhere near others surfers, swimmers, etc in the water while towing. They have the easy option to get waves by themselves AWAY from everyone...I would anyway.

I shoulda clarified, they were staying away from others, but the days were big and drifty (10 blocks in a half hour kinda stuff), so a few times I would drift thru where they were working and if a set would swing through I was never "snaked" by them.

But as for you hinting why they don't venture to that spot away from everyone.....I have no idea. I've surfed it a few times, and would be on it constantly if I had a ski. Maybe the photog they usually have with them is a little spooked about having his legs dangling down like bait hooks there!

So, I am not sure why the guys are always towing in when its not that big. That is a little strange, but regardless of the conditions, towing at and towing in is fun. I thought you guys were all saying how it was ILLEGAL though to do in OC MD. I thought you had to be "xx" amount of feet from the shoreline or something to operate personal watercrafts. So, before everyone was mad because they thought the autorities would crack down on Surfer because these guys were towing where they were not allowed to.

So, does anyone want to chime in with the official PWC laws in coastal MD? I would like to know if it is EVERY allowed to be towing in or at because you have to whip in so close to the shore. Especially there. Everything breaks way inside, so you are whipping guys into sand.

    Anyone know for sure?

If these guys are not breaking any laws, more power to them. Next time they roll by, do what that other dude did and ask for them to whip you into one. You will probably be stoked on towing after one try.

Yeah its lame if its small or whatever, but if you sit around OC MD waiting for a TOH day to tow into, you may be waiting a while. Just go have fun however you need to. If it takes a ski, so be it. Maybe the small waves are just not giving guys the speed they are craving to mack on some airs, so they are using technology to get their fix.

when i had my jetski,i only ever got hassled by the coast guard when i got too close to the shore in Assateague island, never in OC there. most ski guys only hit the waves in oc there after the hours the guards are on duty in season. the law states to stay 100ft away from OBJECTS,other boaters, bridges, unpowered water craft etc.as far as i know, there isn't a law saying how close you can get to shore in the ocean,i mean, they'd kinda have to leave that open incase anybody ever had issues & needed to get to shore quick. i've never seen it as an issue cause most guys went out there to play at 5pm or later & weren't really bothering any beach goers or surfers...
