Hi everone! My backfoot has been slipping off of my short board a lot recently and ive also been having a little trouble duckdiving and i heard traction pads help so ive decided to look into buying one! I thought before searching very deeply id ask the forum members what brands they like the best and what brands they think are the worst. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Sorry to piggy back off this thread... but anyone have advice for taking a traction pad off? the little kick pad on the back fell off in the water today, and the rest of it is basically falling off with it. I'd like to just take it all off and get a new one. Anyone have any suggestions on how to break down the glue underneath? Heat gun? Brute Strength? Also to answer your question Dakine is pretty good. It's really all personal preference, just make sure to sand down the area prior to glueing it down. You don't want that bad boy peeling on you.
just rip it off...and, NO, there's no need to sand you board prior to putting a new one on. Just clean the area of any oils with a rag dipped in alcohol. I like dakine because the padding is a little thicker than most and the bumps are closer together. My feet are real boney and when I roll my foot sideways, the ball of my rear foot presses hard into the board. Wide spaced traction like astro deck or any pads with holes in them doesn't work for me (maybe same reason why guys like andy irons said they can't surf without a traction pad). Back when I was figuring this out, I would buy longboard traction, cut it up and stack the pieces double high for more thickness (yes, the glue is strong enough to last)
