I am wondering if anybody has travelled to SW England (UK) to surf. Specifically the Newquay area. How are the waves? Quality/quantity? Locals? Can't miss beaches? Any advice is greatly appreicated.

Is this a bonafide surf trip, or are you going anyway and hoping to score surf?

Its an actual surf trip. I know there are plenty of other places that have great surf in Europe (Ive been). Money was the main factor in choosing this area vs lets say Ireland. I want to know if anybody has seen the quality. I dont expect it to be epic but any advice is appreciated.

Ive been to Wales for a wedding but stayed for a week and surfed many decent spots around the Gower peninsula (near Swansea).

Swell is generally not the problem over there, wind protection is. The nice thing about the Gower area is there are a bunch of south-facing bays which provide protection from the almost constant sw-w-nw winds. Newquay (Cornwall) kind of looks like its facing right into that sh!t.

What makes SW England/Wales less costly than Ireland?
Check out Surfing-Waves forum. There were a number of members from that area last time I stumbled upon that forum.
