A brother gotta eat though. I aint mad at him. Live life at 150 MPH, charge hard, go big... then settle down, throw some whiskey in your coffee and watch people surf... Seems like he may be the one that has it all figured out.

Yeah, Pupo looked AWEFUL in his first wave... When he finally got that right hander going, he was was dialed in. It was nice, but you could tell that his creative mindset had shut down on the wave. He was just in backside gouge mode the whole way down the line. Not bad from a tactical standpoint, but he really cost himself some style points for not trying something fun... He had a nice string of turns. But at Lowers, you gotta do more than that. Complete novices can look decent on that wave.

Speaking of commentators, does Joe Turpel's voice annoy anyone else? It's worse than nails on a chalkboard. I have to hit mute when he's on.

Yeah Turpel is annoying but Sal Masekela is the worst (have to believe there are multiple threads devoted to this so I'll shut up before someone slaps me...)

I read that a lot but I don't get it. I think he's pretty good at what he does. I can't stand listening to Dave Wassel, holy moly that guy's annoying!! Potz and Peter Mel are probably my favorite commentators. Also, I usually don't ***** about the judging but I think it's been pretty bad today.

Yeah, the judging today was difficult. Especially at the end when the north winds got on it. Other than a few flashes of brilliance in the 9+ range, everyone was really surfing safe today. Some of the most critical moves were big pegs and floaters with a ton of speed to get around the more hollow sections in the middle. That is strange for a lowers event. That right was just going a little too fast to really line it up.

They called it for Thunderstorms? WTF socal? Only one heat left though.

That wind was wild, it was going straight north, then switching offshore for a minute or so, then back. Pupo went for an air and his board short back like 10 feet over the back.

When it went offshore, that was amazing how quick it got perfect.

Stoked...going to be in California all of next week...hoping their run of swell continues, but its not looking promising.

Awesome swell for this contest. I noticed something, a swell like that at Trestles right now would be in a surfline feature if it were to happen in Hatteras right now. Kinda like today, them cali peeps wouldn't have even gone out if they had a swell like in Jersey today. I just think that we are way higher on the bar of stoke factor than them.

    HA!

He gets very annoying sometimes in interviews. JJF will do a huge air at Keramas and in the post heat interview he'll be all like, "Ya, it was pretty sweet i guess, but i just wasn't feeling it out there. DOI DUH DOUODH"
Gimme a break slates...not really impressed with him lately...

I love watching jjf surf, but come on these judges throw him way overated scores.his 9.63 was his only legit wave score,he fell and got a 9.10.when your considered the worlds best,u should earn your scores like hes capable of doing.doing 2 airs and getting a 9.93 come on that's rediculous.he gets 2 ft of air and the crowd goes crazy.I want to see jjf do a 12ft air, then id say he earned the score.and slaters 7,where the fuk did that come from,he didn't get a 7.

John John just put on a clinic. Some of his tail work got a little sketchy recovering from his big power hacks, but man, he just laid it down right there. That last air reverse he landed was mind boggling. He wasn't even touching the board at one point.

yea it looked like he lost it,then he didn't lol.his layback hacks are epic,he deserves score for those, but little 2ft air reverse aint shyt at trestles.i seen 7yr old groms get more air than that at trestles.slater was disappointing, its like he stumbled into the heat drunk.pretty good timing,i got out of work just in time for this heat.its the only heat il probly watch today,i already x'd out when I seen the aussies coming up.the only heats I watch are slater and jj,and when they are in a heat together,it just makes it more better.i think jj wanted payback for that semi final loss in tahiti

Ohh, it wasn't the size of the air, it was the recovery. You saw that sh**. He was completely off of it, got both sets of toes on the nose of the board and the thing just swings around like its strapped on with bindings. I am just impressed with that recovery. And it's fun watching a kid bring some power back into surfing. He had a couple missteps transitioning from those huge gouges, but I haven't seen hacks like that in the modern era.

Funny. Haven't heard anyone bash Jordy for claiming against Julian. Now Ace is against Pupo
If it was a Brazilian there'd be a lot of hating... Just saying

Taj waves were bigger and I feel kinda bad for him, but, damn, Kelly surfed the hell out of that last one and deserved his win.
