I grew up surfing Trestles, now bird watchers won't allow access. But its late September, can we get to the break this time of year? How about the old trail which starts near the bridge and goes along the inlet? My son and I will like to surf it.
Two things. One, your info on why you couldn't surf there isn't correct. It was the Coast Guard's LORAN base that prevented civilian access to the beach. That is why you would be kicked out even if you came on boat (and never touched the beach). Two, if you think people are going to give you the blue print to surf South Jersey's best uncrowded wave in September, think again. Finally, its not that hard to figure out how to legally get there.
I've surfed trestles a thousand times, but haven't surf it in the last 15 years. I'm very familiar with the base, I used to know the C.O. You're correct, it was an old Loran Station, but through the 70's and 80's the Coast Guard didn't stop surfers as long as you stayed at the waters edge and off the ECEN property. What has stopped me from walking down from Diamond Beach in the past few years has been the tree-hugging bird protecting old farts at the fence. Despite what they believe, surfing is not a threat to the the Piping Plover's. Any way, it is late in the season and I'm just wondering if they are still there in late September. Guess I got to find out myself.
