dude manhattan beach is ridiculous, it's pretty much people ages 15-30 without any sort of supervision. the main street with the pier has like 4 or 5 good bars with a few surf shops. always a party on the beach in manhattan. have fun brother

Link to the following for any potential surf. This site has a very good overview for the Pacific.

My bro lives in Manhattan beach, North End. Hermosa is definitely the place to party at night, Manhattan gets good surf but really crowded with anything showing and often close out. Lots of v-ball and walk the strand and look at the ridiculous houses if it gets flat.

Went to San Onofre a few years ago and it was so sick. Really chill and secluded from the LA hustle at every other beach. Lines breaking forever if you don't mind walking over a few rocks. Pack your longboard to fit in.

manhattan beach is a lot of fun. a little expensive, but lots of hot girls, a cool town and on the north end in front of the powerplant it gets pretty good (el porto) from an underwater canyon on the south side of the powerplant. ive seen it break HUGE at the jetty north of the powerplant on a big NW swell (didnt paddle out). hermosa beach is cool too, but i really like surfing up at el porto if its working, there are so many breaks to spread out on and a lot of parking, just gets hectic on the weekends

i recommend blacks beach in north san diego or sunset cliffs just south of there, my fav place in socal since it catches swell really well. manhattan beach is cool tho too and its right next to LAX

From what I've heard of that place, is that if it's over thigh high then there will be at least 50 dudes in the water. Just what I've heard though. At places like Rincon I've also heard that the day after a big swell with waist high leftovers will be way less crowded becuase everyone's surfed out. That could be the case at San O as well though.

If you're gonna be there during the winter I'd check out blacks for sure if your gonna be in So Cal. I've heard that if other spots are at waist high during a winter swell then Blacks will be around head. Some other spots for when there's no real swell are Oceanside Harbor and Imperial Beach. There's a few other spots I would reccomend, but it depends on where you're gonna be in CA.

I was just in SD for a week and basically caught OC Harbor and Trestles at waist/chest all day. I totally recommend OC Harbor. When Blacks and Cardiff were not really breaking OC Harbor was catching the swell. A really cool under-the-radar spot with a couple of peaks.

Trestles and SO beach are totally worth it. Since Trestles seems to be firing every day there is a bit of a crowd but there are enough waves for everyone since the walk down filters out the serious from the not-so-serious surfers. I did a dawn patrol and there were prob still 50 guys out at 6:30AM at uppers. Weekends are worse, weekdays are better. In total I surfed Trestles for 6 hours over two days. Caught too many waves to count....

Just surfing that wave at Trestles is worth it. It's the real deal.
