For reallz. You're now messing with our queen mum and prognosticator of tropical incests. Not cool. Hey Towelie, I was thinking of getting a little high today. Just a little. Good idea or no?
It's always a good idea to get a little high. Not a lot though, just little. Like if you're rewarding yourself for doing something good today. Ye!
I think he was attacking Betty, yankee. Not me. You see, I am trim and fit. Perhaps you should buy a pair of bifocals? Have a good Memorial, yankee.
No, I think you should grab those fans while you can B. Your fan buoy club is lacking. I make it a point to have a deep Memorial Day wknd, actually. You can mock me for all you wish for where I live. That's ok. There is nothing as somber & sobering as this wknd in this city. Arlington National Cemetery s/b on every American's top-three list. Other people have Thanksgiving to celebrate the good things they have been granted in this lifetime. For me it is Memorial Day wknd, right here.
My daughter used to teach at AU. But she moved on. DC is a real nice area; little too far from the smell of seaweed, though, for me. But if you like it there, all the power to you. I'll give that aspect a rest in my needling you. How the hell did that get started anyway?? Cannot recall...
You're a good person to do that Yankee. Arlington is very sobering. My MIL, from the Waves in WWII was buried there and the ceremony in its simplicity is just so moving-- the 21 gun salute, the playing of Taps, just very sobering,
I dunno. Butt I like the idea of moving on, I can do that too. DC metro is where I'm at, but it won't be much longer. Let's just say it's where I work, I make the best of it, it's got goods & bads like anywhere, and soon enough I'll no longer be tied to this region.
I appreciate you saying that, Betty. Interesting. That your MIL is interred at Arlington. So is someone as near & dear to my existence as can be. Navy nurse: WWII. The Women in WWII Memorial is also mandatory on the visit list. I used to live in Rosslyn Heights. My apartment was literally next to the fence line of Ft Myer. Could hear taps every evening as well as the gun salutes if the wind was blowing right. As well, several times a week at 0500 the Old Guard running, training, always preparing for their duty at the hallowed ground, their leader calling cadence. There are some experiences that bring chills, unique to DC, and those do it for me.
You'd have to be made of wood not to feel that. HBO is running the miniseries, Band of Brothers, based on true stories of Easy Company in Europe WWII. One of the lines that always brings me to tears is **** Winters saying that his grandson asked him, "were you a hero in WWII grandpa?"... He responds, "No son. But I served in the company of heroes". B We could use more of that quiet dignity these days. Edited to add: oh for the love of Mike! It removed the guys first name and put in asterisks.geesh.
Pretty silly. I think we all need to start substituting Cock for fellows with that name. Like Cock Dale, Cock's Sporting Goods or Cock Cheney.
Band of Brothers: yah Betty, that's a tremendous series. The guy who plays Winters is actually a Brit, btw. I sent the boxed set to a person who is a helluva patriot in ways I can't divulge - - he doesn't have HBO; viewing the series, yah, he's floored.
Like the Pacific miniseries as well. It makes me feel closer to my dad who fought on Pelilieu in the South Pacific in WWII.
