Kinda unfair to the Brew. We lost our house in Jeanne 2004--as did much of our town--- no power for six weeks, empty market shelves for weeks, poor business income for weeks, moving six times rentsl to rentsl during reconstruction for 18 months----Is it worth living in a coastal town, Yes! But the concern Brew voiced seems natural to me. If the arrow was pointing to central Florida, I would feel the same.
I was shocked at the session I got in mid morning. The forecast was calling for direct side shore to maybe a little onshore wind and gusty. To my surprise it stayed semi offshore and light through out most the morning. The current was gnarly as I traveled about 2 miles then got a ride home. I even snuck in a little right hand barrel (most good ones were lefts) which made my day. It wasn't the greatest thing ever but glad I got out and didn't have to travel to do so. Anybody surf Holden Beach or Emerald Isle today? With the NE winds that's where I was thinking of going....curious if I missed out?

SPECIAL TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 145 PM EDT THU MAY 7 2015 For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico: Data from an Air Force Reserve Hurricane Hunter aircraft indicate that the nearly stationary area of low pressure located about 210 miles south-southeast of the South Carolina-North Carolina border is now producing 40-45 mph winds mainly to the north and west of the center. Environmental conditions are favorable for some additional development, and any increase in the organization of the associated thunderstorm activity would result in the formation of a subtropical cyclone. The low is expected to drift to the north or north- northwest over the next couple of days, and interests along the southeastern coast of the United States should continue to monitor the progress of this system. Regardless of development, heavy rain is expected over portions of the coastal southeastern United States for the next few days. For additional information, see products from your local National Weather Service forecast office and High Seas Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service. The next Special Tropical Weather Outlook on this system is scheduled for 8 PM EDT. * Formation chance through 48 hours...high...80 percent * Formation chance through 5 days...high...80 percent
Got lots of rain in Charleston today. Waves where decent this morning but kinda funky to catch. Not to crowded early. Should get swell for a few days. Just an observation, but I can't understand why peeps is still wearing full suites here? To each there own I guess.
well um from looking at the swellinfo forecast, this is not a go.anyone notice the water temp jumped 5 degrees from this morning to now?something to look forward to
I agree. I caught a few decent rides. Current sucked and the wind was a bit much. I wore my spring suit, just because the wind was a bit chilly. I was the only one out on the northern part of IOP. Hoping it is clean tomorrow after work.
This afternoon the waves really looked nice by pier rode out there to check them out...nice form wind seemed to have slowed some allowing a form...or slightly from west/offshore ...Lots out there but plenty of room didn't go today ...gettin off early tomm...going out tomm aftnoon with bodyboard....I agree spring or rash shirt plenty now...spring maybe if windy rainy ...rash if sunshiney
Oceana Pier in Atlantic Beach looked fun from the cam. Was thinking of heading to Holden, but held off. Wind totally blew it out.
8 pm update Natl Hurricane Center puts odds at 90% now. Looks like a tropical depression is being formed.
90% basically means its happening. Surf is supposed to be bigger here tomorrow than it was today. Winds are relentless at 25-30mph winds. Naturally, it's blown out. Hoping for lighter winds in the AM. Need the system to slide east a bit and give us some offshore wind direction or just straight north please!!!
http://www.gulfster.com/Daily/2015PictureGallery/050715ec/index.html ^^^ What it looked like today in Central FL, hope enough left overs for tomorrow, I have a offsite meeting but done at 10:30 and heading out!
Every time a wave hit me the water got warmer and then slowly dissipated into slightly cooler water, I'm guessing from the slight NE windswell we had comboing the storm swell... Is this a possibility? I know the water temp tends to change during a hurricane but I always thought that was a consistent temperature...Today was more like Warm wave, Cool Water, in a constant pattern.
