O backing fed reserve’s decision(s) isn’t something “he” did. And yes I think their actions created an environment for stocks to run hard. (Trump is denouncing b/c he wants to be afforded the same accommodation...the economic sugar high). Take a look a corporate balance sheets and stock buy backs over this time period (easy money). If you think Dodd Frank and bank stress test helped create the extended bull market then I want to smoke some of that Panamanian gold your on .
I am consistent. Obama did little if anything to create stock value. Extension of welfare benefits has nothing to do with stock valuation. im Just trying to understand your logic on his policy helping create this bull market. The fed and now the corporate tax rate is keeping this thing rolling. Not to mention pretty good earnings in recent years. Trumps tax cut is very good for stocks...how it effects the National debt over the coming years is yet to be seen. Sorry I just don’t recall any substantive policies that O touted which helped create the bull run.
So Obama's tax cut in 2010 did nothing to stimulate stocks but Trump's in 2017 did? Trying to figure out your consistency....You also ignore the American Recovery Act completely in your reply...you guys forget so easily how close we were to an economic collapse. Extension of unemployment kept people from emptying 401k's even further, which would be more money coming OUT of the markets. I know personally know people that were in this exact situation and were saved by the extension. Dodd Frank and stress tests helped at least create a floor for economic contraction. At the time it was not about growth, it was about stopping contraction, which both things assisted in. You can't recover if you can't stop the bleeding.
There is no way to have a trade war without some pain. Glad to hear you would like to see better trade deals....
What policies has Trump done to stimulate the markets? A tax cut and deregulation? Well let's see where the deficit is when he leaves, easy to cut taxes and stimulate growth if you ignore the deficit, that's the mistake BO made and Trump is following that policy.
Primarily a temporary extension of Bush tax cuts which I will contend had some help with economy. I still believe the Fed’s actions created the environment for stocks to run like they did. That tax policy compared to the recent corporate tax law is oranges and tangerines...
Fair enough. But again, lets see where the deficit ends up with Trump....then judge how well he handled the economy. Kicking the can down the road needs to stop in D.C.
By doubling or tripling the GDP , reducing our trade deficit, and having an increase of workers due to record low unemployment , those extra workers paying taxes, and less people on welfare or other gov. assistance programs, don’t you see that deificit coming down? I’m no expert, I’m just asking a question.
Wasn't that the exact theory behind the Bush Tax cuts in 2003? How did that work out? That theory works ONLY if you also decrease spending too, I am yet to see DT cut any spending, he just wants to move it over to the military (which is already ridiculously bloated). Look, I am not saying it won't work out, I'm just not ready to knight him as an economic messiah like you until he leaves office and we see the long term effects of his policies. Whether you like it or not (or if you give the FED credit or not) Obama left our economy in wayyyyy better shape than what he inherited from his Republican predecessor and Trump benefited from it. That cannot be argued.
yea but we can argue over what caused the crisis to begin with (including policy). Obama inherited a disaster. That disaster wasn't Bush's fault...what did the Congress do during those proceeding years to avoid it (Rhetorical)? Our gov't is jacked up. They will spend us into a crisis before it is over. Kyle aren't you on a surf trip right now? Any good sessions to report?
Got back at 4am this morning. Plenty of goods waves and good times had. Have to go thru and organize/edit the pics and videos. Will try and post them as soon as I can. I can tell you the drug trade is alive and well in Panama. Aside from being offered a bag of coke at least once every day we also got stopped numerous times by Panamanian DEA agents and pulled out of the car for a full search of bags and persons. Seems like quite a waste of money in a country that doesn't seem to have much imo.
I don’t recall the GDP being doubled or tripled under Bush nor the record lows for unemployment and low welfare and entitlement payouts. I’m going off memory, please correct me if wrong.
The SwellInfo Swamp is filled with Russian Collusionists, bad actors, and political operators. 162 pages to prove it. My takeaway from this thread is this: Summer surf sucks, and the powers that be love a good division. Dont let them do it to us. UNITE THE CLANS!
Working people frequently ask retired people what they do to make their days interesting. Well, for example, the other day I went downtown and into a shop. I was only there for about 5 minutes, and when I came out there was a cop writing out a parking ticket. I said to him, "Come on, man, how about giving a retired person a break?" He ignored me and continued writing the ticket. I called him a "Nazi." He glared at me and wrote another ticket for having worn tires. So I called him a "doughnut-eating Gestapo." He finished the second ticket and put it on the windshield with the first. Then he wrote a third ticket. This went on for about 20 minutes. The more I abused him the more tickets he wrote. Personally, I didn't care. I came downtown on the bus, and the car that he was putting the tickets on had a bumper sticker that said "Hillary for President”. I try to have a little fun each day now that I'm retired. It's important for my health.
Doubled/Tripled GDP? You'll have to give me your source for that info besides just Trumps own mouth. https://www.factcheck.org/2018/07/trump-inflates-gdp-growth/ The unemployment thing is funny because when Obama left office it was at 4.8%, a excellent number by any historical measure; however, Trump didn't believe these numbers and claimed it was as high as 25%. Now, it seems Trump believes the numbers coming from the Bureau of Labor Statistics when it says it is at 3.9%. So which one is it? Does he actually believe he brought down unemployment 21% in 2 years, or was he just lying to our faces claiming it was 25% in 2016??? That being said, the unemployment number below 4% is awesome for this country and Trump should get some credit for that, just not as much as he claims. Again DP, in theory what you are saying should lead to a deficit reduction; however, unless Trump cuts spending, it won't. This has been the playbook under Reagan and Bush. They both did cuts and increased spending therefore increasing the debt (Reagan GDP number were really good too but not enough to overcome the spending). Trump appears to be doing the same thing. So in this vein, they are really not much different that Democrats. One takes our money and gives it to lazy people, the other takes it and give it to corporations that don't need it. That is my frustration. Cut taxes, cut spending....win/win, but you must do BOTH!
I didn't say it's been doubled or tripled yet, but when all is said and done, it could be based on how things have been going. My point was while past Presidents might have had a similar theory, they didn't have the same level of results. He isn't doing exactly as they did in the past. He's doing MORE and is why we'll see a big chunk taken out of the deficit, but I think it will take another full 6 years to get things back in order. Even after it's all said and done we'll still have to elect someone else to carry the torch and not go back to the Obama days. Patience Kyle, give it time. There's so much more to be done.
Nobody is counting chickens Kyle. Try being positive for a change, it'll help your outlook tremendously.
