If TSLA fired all their workers and closed doors in 2019, would you see that a positive thing for the USA?

Your twisted, bent-logic attempt at calling upon xenophobia (wait, you're the libtard who wants open borders!) so as to promote your socialist agenda of even MORE govt intervention in the American private sector is rated a Fail, sigourney o_O

Free market economy, mon ami - - that's the important Big Picture.
AIG should nvr have been bailed out.
Cash for clunkers was insane waste of taxpayer money & got us nowhere.
The auto companies should nvr have been bailed out.
The airlines should nvr have been bailed out.

Some folks, maybe not you, but some folks live in fear. OMG, what if TSLA fails?!?! The Chinese will take over! The people will nvr find other jobs! Our air will become polluted! Who knows what hype we will be burdened with. Same as when the pols bailed out all the above poorly run entities.

Guess what, though - - the world of business survives. New jobs in new or different or related sectors crop up. New banks, new insurance companies, new vehicle mfg is born.

Those corporate people who 'led us' during the Great Recession should all be at least penniless, at most just getting out of jail, or both. I mean....Angelo Mozilo.....really?!?

The pols who performed the bailouts are vote pimps. Short-term thinking yields long-term pain & that's how they function.

In reality, it's always short-term pain yields long-term gain. Always

Please enlighten me about electric cars. If the electricity generated to power these cars comes from fossil fuels, how is that more environmentally friendly. I’m probably way off base here but I don’t understand.

    Very good point.
I would hazard a guess and assume that the TOTAL carbon exhaust would be calculated to be LESS than fossil fuel cars, even to include electric generator burn off to power electric cars. But, who knows--I just thing Tesla cars look cool. Cool is everything. I mean, if I were to be President, I would want to be president of Afghanistan. Why? Because they get to wear cool hats. Ours don't.....

    https://www.wired.com/story/even-more-evidence-that-electric-cars-could-save-the-planet/

Also, if you power your home on solar and drive an electric car then your carbon footprint is a fraction of a fossil fuel home and vehicle. I haven't paid an electric bill or bought gas in over a year.

I disagree with you when it involves major shifts in technology, where a private company may not see a return on investment for 10 years or so. Look no further than our little interweb forum here as an example. Government grants and collaborations with our 'socialist' universities, gave us the backbone technologies of the internet. Now that meager govt investment has been paid back with trillions of dollars and hundreds of millions of job.

"In truth, no private company would have been capable of developing a project like the Internet, which required years of R&D efforts spread out over scores of far-flung agencies, and which began to take off only after decades of investment. Visionary infrastructure projects such as this are part of what has allowed our economy to grow so much in the past century." -> https://blogs.scientificamerican.co...t-researchers-really-did-invent-the-internet/

btw, I don't support open borders, we already have walls where it matters most, and building a wall in the desert along the Rio Grande is just dumb, with about the worst cost/benefit analysis you could imagine.

Makes sense about the electric cars but I did see in there that the mpg they calculate varies depending on where you live and that specifically China get very little environmental benefit due to there reliance on coal powered electric grid.
