The mods told me that chavezy is way tougher and a better person. I agreed. Then I mentioned it to my wife and she said "what kind of loser get's banned from a surfing website over politics?" Once again I agreed.

Um, okay, here's a grant I plucked randomly from the NSF that was awarded to researchers at Georgia Tech for $233K to date. Note as follows: "New discoveries will be disseminated through patents, technical publications and potential technology transfer to a start-up company through Georgia Tech?s Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC)".

Polymer Nanostructures as Thermal Interface Materials
    Awarded Amount to Date:
    $233,279.00

Georgia Tech School of Mechanical Engineering

    Broader Impacts:

“The success of this project could enable cost-effective materials for thermal management of advanced electronic systems and devices leading to new technologies and applications in the computing, communications, electronics, aerospace and defense industries. New discoveries will be disseminated through patents, technical publications and potential technology transfer to a start-up company through Georgia Tech?s Advanced Technology Development Center (ATDC). ADTC is located in close proximity to the PIs labs and provides seed funding and technology incubation space to member companies. Integration of research, teaching, and outreach programs across multiple disciplines, including polymer science and nanotechnology, will impact the education and training of a diverse student body covering the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate level at Georgia Tech. Finally, the PIs will engage high school teachers and students from Dekalb County in outreach activities involving hands-on exposure to advanced materials and thermal technologies.”

So here's my question on the shutdown. Why, did Trump wait until the Dems had control of the house to ask for funding for the border wall? I mean, hello!!?? Why did he not ask for the cash during the past 2 years when the GOP had full control? And why only 5.7 Billion? That just gets you 100 miles of wall. That's like building 20% of an aircraft carrier, and calling it good. The whole thing seems incredibly dumb.

Maybe it all seems incredibly dumb to you because

    1) you don't have the answers, and/or

    2) you don't want to know the real truth

This notion that this is the first time that Trump asked for the wall funding is false. They just don't want to make a deal, not on this, it's his top campaign promise. THEY. MUST. RESTIST!

    LOL!!!!
    This is complete crap!
A contracting office justifying its existence. An award for theoretical process that theoretically MIGHT lead to innovation.

    Absolute rubbish mon bucko.

My question stands: show me an example of where the govt has enabled private sector companies & profits via govt funding of projects.

Well, the REAL question is, to my mind, why deny Trump a paltry 5.7Billion to help Border patrol/Customs, but yet agree to give Iran a total of about 100 billion dollars (Iran Deal agreements), of which you agreed to sent 1.6billion in cash on pallets (the cash was trying to be done "on the QT".). There are those that did and would think that to be treason, and reasonably so, even though it doesn't exactly fit the definition.
Tell you what siggy, unless you have 12 mexicans presently living in your home, don't talk about this anymore. You just sound silly.

The GOP has worked against Trump just as hard as the Dems have. The difference is the GOP is a whole lot smarter than the Dims. Trump has a better chance of getting the wall with them in House while simaltaneously making them look worst for 2020. I smell a landslide coming...

One year--but do not have to anymore. My taxes do that. I support border control guys to do their job.
    Silly question, actually. Not equivalent.

What's silly? You're ok with your taxes going to the wall the way Sig is ok with his taxes going toward border measures aside from the wall. Why does he need to have 12 mexicans in his house to have that opinion?

    Okay, here's 50 of them -> https://www.nsf.gov/about/history/nifty50/index.jsp

You know stuff like fiber optics, the internet, data compression. How many thousands of profitable companies are based on those technologies?

I don't have answers, I only have opinions. As some one who supports taxpayers paying for the Wall, I'm curious what your thoughts are on this. Like, what's the 'real' truth?

The "other measures" have not yet worked, for one. Secondly, walls work. Ask the East Berliners prior to 1989. Thirdly, a barrier protects your Border officers as well - they count in my book too.

You will never get the "real truth" from either side of the issue.
They are all liars. But yet, suckers keep voting them in. Suckers keep voting period. I have not voted in 35 years or so. Only suckers do.
Voting for "the lesser evil" is fools gold.

What was wrong with them Republicans, why didn't they give Trump the money for the wall when he asked before?

Trump is not really a Republican, according to the Republicans. They hate him as much as you do. He is making them look as bad as he has the Dems. One could say he is "chasing windmills" (Cervantes).

If the Republican base supports the wall, why wouldn't the GOP congressman and senators support the wall when Trump asked for the money when they had complete control? That seems dumb to me.

This is where i'm at. I'm thinking it's because the GOP constituency would have rebuffed the idea that Mexico was not going to pay for it after all putting congress in further jeopardy, so now AFTER the mid-terms they blame the entire failure to fund a wall on the dems and try to hold out until 2020?
