What makes it odd is that there seems to be no benefit to saying he was born in Germany. As for not knowing, it could make sense if you did not know your dad, but he did. He almost knew where he was born when he wrote his book Art of the Deal... He said his father was born in NJ, which is apparently incorrect, but close. So he knew 30 years ago (approximately). But to say he was from Germany, specifically a very wonderful place in Germany, is odd...
