Julia continues to meander around off the Carolina coast. Perhaps it is bringing waves to our SI guys in that area. It should dissipate next week. Meanwhile we now have TS Karl which is robust looking. Path continues WNW and it should survive any shear. Stay tuned for updates on Karl. There is a robust wave exiting Africa which has a good shot at becoming a named storm. There is a weak low in the Gulf. There is too much to comment on for a workday morning right now.
Good stuff Betty, lots of energy in the water today but conditions not nearly as clean as forecasted, kinda meh actually. There is size but quality is about a 3.5 outta 10.
Sweet! Looks like a clean swell down here, although small, from Julia. Karl may be the one that we talk aboot for a while. The current models take it into our window as a developing hurricane in five days. Hopefully as a meandering fish storm. Choo Choo! The hype train has left the station.
I heard Karl is not make any rainfall in the SouthEast. I'd assume that means it'll stay in the Atlantic riding up the coast a tad though that image suggests otherwise
It's rained a lot in Charleston but there has been swell/////yesterday was good ...waist to chest cleanish and drifty.....and tues was fun but kinda choppy but it's really fun today...chest shoulder cleanish but drifty again...good redemption for the lack of waves down here during hermine
The cone graphic above suggests PR will be "the call" in a few days........ Also, St. Thomas.....Also, Tortola....etc....etc........
http://www.skeetobiteweather.com/ Here are some spaghetti models. In reading the NHC forecasts on Julia, basically they don't know WTF she is going to do, like Yankees ex wife, or was it cepriano? She could go south into Georgia, she could go out to sea. They don't know if she is going to pick up speed or slow down. They should've called her Amber or Tiffany Jo, not Julia. For Karl, he is to be watched closely. He is still pretty far out in the Atlantic, they are wondering if he won't go so far south as predicted. He will eventually take a north west track, unclear when that turn will be watch him this weekend and early next week. This could be the one the EC surfers have been waiting for, but it's too soon to know.
It's likely to pan out given the lack luster season so far. There's always a couple each year and the window of opportunity is closing, so I feel the odds are very high we get the goods, but the odds are also high we get smashed, I pray we don't.
The last swell was underforcasted down here. Predictd at waist to chest. It was well OH but a bit wind blown and sectiony. Certain spots were better. (Karl could be the real deal) Meanwhile, Julia tomorow could also be underforcasted and clean so bring two boards just in case.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I caught some really fun ones today, chest to shoulder with some power, semi glassy and a little classy, had a blast
The buoys are showing 4 ft plus NE @ 8 to 9 seconds. Does that mean it will be flat in RI? Summer is over! Choo! Choo!
Awesome dude! Wish I coulda hit low tide but had to work at that time. Woulda worked out better for me. I had to hit last hour of incoming high tide. Was pretty funky at that time but had some power for sure.
Nice Dog! So glad you had a blast should be some left today ... New wave just coming off Africa: "As of 2:00 am EDT Sat Sep 17 2016 ... A tropical wave located just offshore of the west coast of Africa is accompanied by disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity. Environmental conditions appear conducive for gradual development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle of next week while this system moves westward to west-northwestward across the eastern tropical Atlantic. Regardless of tropical cyclone formation, this system could bring rain and gusty winds to portions of the Cabo Verde Islands during the next couple of days. * Formation chance through 48 hours...low...30 percent * Formation chance through 5 days...medium...60 percent"
Waves down here on crystal coast yesterday , kinda windy but it was fun, this morning the winds have dropped a bit so maybe well get lucky
