TROPICAL WEATHER OUTLOOK NWS NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER MIAMI FL 200 PM EDT TUE AUG 19 2014 The latest from NOAA on this invest looks promising enough to start gnashing the teeth, salivating, and getting excited about-- and it's def August here in Florida, with 93F heat, warm ocean , unstable air, and the daily 3pm Apocalypse-- 1. Disorganized shower and thunderstorm activity continues in association with an elongated area of low pressure that extends from the northeastern coast of South America into the central tropical Atlantic. Environmental conditions are forecast to be more conducive for gradual development of this system during the next few days as it approaches the Lesser Antilles and moves into the Caribbean Sea. * Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...30 percent. * Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.
I wouldn't get too excited, a large area of dry air is going to screw up any potential for development for any of these storms until it changes. Let's hope it changes.
He was gonna do this: http://www.vice.com/americana/big-sandy skip to 11:45 after you watch first 15 seconds
There is supposed to be a low coming off the mid-atlantic setting us up (fl.) for a little ground swell later next week.....maybe...lol
I feel it coming. It feels like the Mean Season the past week. Flhurricane.com posts: "A tropical wave east of the Caribbean, although likely not to develop in the short term, has a moderate chance later in the week. 30% in the next 48 hours, and 50% over the next 5 days. The dry air conditions are likely to put a damper on it, but being later in August those in the Caribbean will want to watch it. Long range models do put it as a potential threat to the northern Caribbean islands, including Cuba, and it possibly could enter the Gulf of Mexico. See the forecast lounge for more discussion on the longer range. Despite that, it still has to develop around the dry air, which may let up Thursday or Friday somewhat, and enter into more favorable conditions. "
Here's a model run, but who knows, it could run on the east side of the islands....wouldn't that be nice. http://www.myfoxhurricane.com/custom/models/ww3/ww3_sigwave_atl.html
Whatever it is, I'll be following up soon after with my own. Boom. Let's hope this bastard stays east of the islands!
Doesn't matter if it goes in the Gulf or up the East Coast to me, I'm getting some either way, who's got their tickets for a ride on the Hype Train?!
Current gfs 10 day loop http://www.weather.unisys.com/gfs/gfs.php?inv=0&plot=pres®ion=us&t=4p&expanddiv=hide_bar Current ecmwf model for 10 days...shows nothing. http://old.ecmwf.int/products/forec...America!pop!od!oper!public_plots!2013101600!! Tho both agree on the pacific side big tropical event.
Flhurricane.com: "At 20/03Z poorly organized Invest 96L was located in the west central Atlantic near 9.5N 52.0W with winds of 25 knots and a central pressure of 1009MB. The system was moving westward at 10kts. SSTs are 29C. Increasing chances for some development on Wednesday and Thursday but the system will encounter increasing westerly windshear on Friday and into the weekend as it moves to the west to west northwest along the base of a healthy Atlantic ridge. A dry atmosphere in the Caribbean Sea will also limit development. If the system can survive until it gains some latitude south of Cuba it will start to encounter a better environment for additional development - perhaps even rapid development - but its a bit too soon to speculate on that theme at this time. Invest 96L is certainly a system worth monitoring, but the overall structure is currently not well defined. "
As far as surf within the next week, we may be looking at the wrong section of the Atlantic. Nor'easter coming up first half of next week.
