Haha, still wondering what to do with my Ray Rice Jersey. And not to defend the guy, but he only got two games, cause the video in the Elevator shows the fiance spit in his face, punch him about 8 times, then he grabs her and threw hew against the wall and then she was out like a light. Still a terrible incident, but the general public is under a different impression as far as what Rice actually did.

Long island this morning.....got lucky. All of the surf population on the beach just watching. Too windy, tide this, I didn't bring enough wax. Bad excuses. The more popular spots are pretty shallow, was able to find a spot further down the beach with deeper water. That plus the mid-full tide saved this swel. Sets were OH. Clean. Waves were holding up real nice considering other spots were closing out. Offshores were strong but it didn't hold you up to much. I haven't gone that fast in a very long time. Winter maybe?

Best part, most stayed on the beach, the ones that didn't paddled out at spots that were closing out because they're kooks, the peak I surfed had no more then 5 or 6 guys. All cool dudes too, hooting for each other and all that. So much fun. Really happy I was able to find a spot where it wasn't closing out

im north,Monmouth county.they were calling 6-8ft and I been checking it all day.it was supposed to peak when I got out of work at 4.all I see is waist to chest high with the occasional head high, its semi clean but the waves are real mushy.mushy closeouts.havnt seen one barrel anywhere.i was expecting to go to the beach in fear like should I really paddle out hoping to see 8ft bombs breaking 200 yards offshore.instead I was greeted with chest high mushburgers breaking 50yards out.theres waves, but not what I was expecting

A few pics from the last two days here in NC. Where I surfed it was offshore and head high + all day on Wednesday then we lucked out with some decent leftovers this morning. I'm just glad it all went down before Labor day weekend!!

Same! Mb, sb, hook-really weak at daybreak. But I ended up going out in Spring lake and deal and swell hit certain jetties really well. I was feeling good on a newer board, then I tried to get cute and bounce out off of a lip and the wave shot my board back in my face. Luckily my elbow took it. Unfortunately part of my elbow and nose of board now have matching holes in them. Never had fiberglass rip me open like that. Worth it.

Just throwing this out there. Definitely gonna get crap for this BUT what's with Jersey? Bertha all you guys were complaining about how crappy it was. This swell, guys complaining about the swell not being big enough or whatever. Both those swells LI had great conditions, assuming you know where to go ofcourse. I say this because Jersey gets the spot light and every one forgets about LI. But from what I see on here, Jersey real ain't that great is it. LI > Jerz

Good show at Croatan this morning. Fairly clean conditions, guys getting barreled. Saw boards of all varieties, but wondered where all the surfers suddenly came from.

Replenishment. For a while the majority of NJ was breaking during swells. Now a spot is knee high during a 6ft pulse and 3 miles north or south is over head. Dudes get bummed when there favorite spots get flattened because the sand makes its way to their home bar. Frustrating. Dont you get bummed when your buds say "so good down south," when it sucked in the time you can carve out to surf? Just venting.

there was definitely some hollow barreling 6foot waves today, at the right jetty. steep drops and walled up closeouts shutting down was much more prevalent than the other more recent storms tho

You're right... LI is definitely better with the longer period swells.

Definitely true. LI is way more consistent, gets better wave quality and has offshore wind much more often. People from NY should never bother coming to NJ when the wind is west. Everyone cringes when they see the NY plates around here. They know they can't surf and it just says "Kooks arriving who should be playing bball instead in that the piss smelling ****hole of NY"

Once again, long period swells haven't been good in most spots in Jersey for the past 2 years or so because of weak sandbars either from replenishment or storms like Sandy. If there's a solid 4-5 foot swell @8-9s you'll see better wave quality than 4-5ft @12-14s, like we have witnessed a few weeks ago. I know there are spots that this isn't true at all, but for many mainstream places to surf this is true in Jersey.
Also swell direction is important as well. Both this storm and Bertha were moving away from Jersey, not up the coast of Jersey. I think that plays a big role in wave quality and certainly helps with the winds.

I went late today (noonish) and received the reward I should have: closeouts and the occasional outraceable one. Some spots were working better than others but the crowds were on 'em. I'm hoping for better tomorrow morning.

One dude was surfing the shorebreak, I looked back and he was waving goodbye, with a snapped board in his hands. Bummer.

North monmouth misses a lot of groundswell. Its because if refraction from the Hudson Canyon. When this happens, head south a few miles.

NJ was tons of fun on this one in my opinion. Some spots had overhead sets, lots had consistent head high sets.

Good thoughts above and the venting is valid.

Did anyone else have mad fun getting thrashed again today in warm water? Got some unreal rides on high waves and also got my schitt handed to me as I got fatigued and swell built further OH. Loved getting thrown today and I'd never say that in the winter which is a cold aqueous death. Spicoli paddled into everything today ruthlessly with no regrets.
